An Australian father's speedy rescue of his two kidnapped sons has embarrassed Swedish police, who struggled with the case for six months.
Armed with just a pair of binoculars and a rental car, it took the unidentified man only one week to find his missing sons, aged 11 and 10, in Sweden.
"It is a genuine failing mark to the work of the police," columnist Lars Lindstrom wrote in the Swedish newspaper Expressen.
"(The father) went on leave, flew from Melbourne to Sweden and found them in a week. How did that happen?"
The boys were allegedly abducted in October last year by their Swedish mother.
She was charged with their kidnapping and became a wanted fugitive in Sweden.

Good on the dad ... guess the cops actually have to get out of the car for a really good investigation.

No paper work.......
You mean sensitivity-trained-burqua-wearing-Socialists aren’t effective in fighting crime?
Who knew?
Out of the car, and out of the donut shop.
Must have been a do-nut shop nearby.........
That’s pretty much in line with the ability of the police to prevent crime. They can’t. They only clean up the mess afterwards.
And it never actually came to this.
Dad had to be efficient, he wasn't getting overtime.
Article says he found them at their grandparents house after staking out the place. How hard would it have been for the cops to do that?
Police looked everywhere:
“’We have looked at a number of addresses,’ Detective Superintendent Svante Melin of Sodermanland police told the newspaper.”
The father went in a rental car to only one address:
“...he rented a car and drove to Sodermanland, a county on the southeast coast, where he knew the mother’s parents lived”

I am confident that the police would eventually have looked at the guy’s inlaws in another half year.
‘For the first time in six months, he heard the sounds of his sons’ voices coming from inside the building.
“I didn’t even know the children were alive. The feeling was incredible,’’ the father told Expressen’
I’m so glad he found his children.
The mother and grandkids staying with her parents! What are the odds! Who would ever have though to look there?
When it comes to “mothers” police rarely will get involved & when they do it would only be half-heartedly.
It doesn’t matter what country.
sw
Probably not incompetence, but a reluctance to get involved in an international custody case against one of their own citizens.
Maybe Swedish police simply sided with a Swedish mother.
>She was charged with their kidnapping and became a wanted fugitive in Sweden.
What would the cops do if she was an unwanted fugitive?
Interesting. I'm sure nothing will come of that.
Just goes to show you that you don’t have to take someone at their word when they say lead you to believe that they are doing something about it.
