1.All guns are always loaded!
2.Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy!
3.Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target!
4.Always be sure of your target!
The National Rifle Association has rendered them into just THREE2 basic "always keep" rules
A.Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.
B.Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot.
C.Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.
Nothing in these rules regarding a warning shot.....that bullet landed somewhere.
Those are great — I am going to buy my wife a gun in the next few weeks and I wanted to be sure she has the important list of rules.
The NRA says keep guns unloaded?
What a crock.
When I was in the Army, our guards (we had armed guards of classified items) were instructed to fire a warning shot. Further, guards were instructed to shoot that warning shoot at the ground, so it could be recovered, to be sure that there was evidence that the warning shot had been fired.
Why?
Because a warning shot is a measure you can take short of deadly force, to change someone’s behavior. It is also a very good way to summon help from the proper authorities.
We had 20 round magazines, with more in our pouches.
There will of course be situations where a warning shot is NOT a good idea. If one of our guards had discharged a killing shot first, he would have been prosecuted, and would have had to make a case that he did not have time to fire a warning shot and still be able to perform his mission.
I understand that the average encounter, when weapon is fired, consumes 3 rounds. Needing to fire even one round makes you outside a normal situation. Needing more than three makes you further yet outside normal.
I have little time for mall ninjas. Be grateful.
