Santelli: AIG Bonuses Only a 'Political' Outrage of Millions, Focus on Billions and Trillions
NewsBusters ^ | March 17, 2009 | Jeff Poor

Since his now-famous Chicago Tea Party outburst from the floor of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange in February, CNBC's Rick Santelli had seemingly disappeared from the spotlight.

However, on CNBC's March 17 "Squawk Box," Santelli, using similar theatrics, noted that the Obama administration as been very concerned about $165 million in bonuses paid out to American International Group (AIG) executives, even though they were recipients of bailout money from the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP).

"Well, I mean it seems as though the administration really hit this one head on. They're not happy about it, right?" Santelli said.

Not yet, but wait until Obama creates his “National Civilian Task Force” a.k.a. the “Brown Shirts”...

“They haven’t completely muzzled Santelli.”

They don’t even really need to. For every 2 minutes of face time Santelli has, Steve Lice Man (a smarmy Obama/Rat apologist) gets 10 minutes.

All those stupid heads in boxes on that show. They weren’t saying anything—only the skirt kept piping up and totally missing the point.

My bumper sticker saying, “How’s Hope and Change Working for Ya?” is meaning more and more each day.

I noticed that too.. Maybe that’s why Leisman baits him into talking more, so he can get another “Meet the Press” appearance.

AIG bonus outrage, sponsored by government, is a smoke screen or red herring to keep the people from focusing on the real issue - which is the incompetence, outlandish spending and devaluation of the dollar by the government and Congress. Wake-up America and Americans, your government is taking you down a path to destructiion.

Oh I saw him this morning. It was perfect and he explained it very well.

Reminded me of chuck the schmuck insisting that the 1 or 2% pork in the stimulus was unimportant. Since that was a couple of billion, why is this so called bonus so important?

That was a painful video to watch.

Santelli talking about millions, as opposed to billions & trillions.

The required bimbette reporter [?] looking & sounding like she would have a hard time fixing juniors lunch, and the other dude equally lost in space.

The fact is the Congress knew full well that those bonuses were contractual, and they knew it a year ago and said, or did absolutely nothing.

We're watching a game of screw the taxpayer, and it's not about bonuses that were designed to keep employees from resigning until they are let go by AIG.

I couldn’t watch this every day. It was so laborious the way he had to speak to these others like they were children, and then that woman starts yapping and she sounds so ignorant. The first guy who spoke seemed wary of getting into anything anti-Obama. I’m so glad I don’t have TV.

The outrage isn't AIG's bonus millions. That's a management decision for AIG, and one that should be none of our business. Contract law covers that issue, and following contracts should not be a popularity contest.

The real outrage is that the thugs in the White House and in Congress have looted the treasury for trillions. TARP is an outrage. The "stimulus" that won't stimulate or even create jobs this year is an outrage, and would still be outrageous even if it would work. The socialism in what used to be and still should be a great nation is an outrage. A hundred million dollars of what should have been a private company's money? That should be in the middle of the business section in the article on why AIG is going under and perhaps near Part II of the article on how AIG's much smaller competitors are taking the dead company's market share with their better management and greater professionalism and responsiveness.

Personally, I am outraged about the bonuses...also, since the fed gave AIG the bonus under Paulson, I don’t see what congress has to do with it...now Obama and congress need to get our money back and soon...Santelli sounds ridiculous defending these guys after he just talked about personal responsibility. I guess AIG masters of the universe get to live by a different code than you and me. Frankly, I am furious.

"I guess AIG masters of the universe get to live by a different code than you and me. Frankly, I am furious."

The untold story (so far) is any bonuses contracted before February 2009 were exempted by an amendment proposed and added by Democrats to the Stimulus bill. That Bill was signed into law By Barry Hussein.

Further AIG disclosed those bonuses last year and eveyone including Obama knew about them. Yet he still signed them into law.

I understand you are furious but you are furious at the wrong source.

Obama and the Democrats engineered it and are trying to lay off the blame on AIG.

This is not true...AIG received fed money during Paulson’s tenure in November to be exact and has nothing to do with Congress...no bonuses for bailed out banks...don’t give them anymore money.

Obama and the Democrats are trying to redirect the public's outrage from themselves to AIG.

They didn’t get it yet...call your congress people and demand they get nothing...they are using the previous fed money for these bonuses.
