I am willing to forgive the Spectre for a lot, as I appreciate his support for Clarence Thomas (did more than anyone else to get Thomas confirmed) and Bush’s judicial picks. But this is going too far. And with his age and health history, he has no business running for yet another term.

When a RINO Senator is contemplating switching parties, I usually say “good riddance to bad rubbish,” especially since it likely wouldn’t reduce the number of Republicans in each Senate committee and sub-committee and would allow the GOP to name a replacement Republican in each of the committees and sub-committees on which Specter sits (thus making each committee and sub-committee a bit less liberal). However, if Specter switches and becomes a 100% liberal instead of a 70% liberal he may provide the 60th vote for cloture on all sorts of harmful bills, so we need to tread carefully here. Still, I can’t imagine that Specter running as a Democrat would be a stronger Democrat Senate candidate in 2010 than, say, Congressman Tim Holden or (obviously) Gov. Ed Rendell, so at the very least I hope that Specter switches to the Democrats prior to a tough Democrat candidate jumping into the race.

The AFL-CIO is also courting to switch or at least vote for card check.

The mere fact he would even think about should give pause to any elected Republican thinking about backing him in a GOP primary.

It should have given GOP voters pause about McLame too, he was almost Kerry’s running mate.
