"Our growth –- our success as a nation –- depended on what we did together. And so the government could lay the groundwork for an economy in which innovation is prized and hard work rewarded, in which rules are clear and clearly enforced. And the rest would be up to people like you and the people who work for you to create the incredible products and services that today we enjoy."

I heard this speech. This particular comment disturbed me greatly. The key part for me was that the "government could lay the groundwork for an economy in which innovation is prized and hard work rewarded, in which rules are clear and clearly enforced."

As I just read it, for the first time, it got more and more disturbing as it went along. These "leaders" of various multinationals, including some complete failures, are being kept around as useful idiots like in FDR's time. His "door is always open" provided they sign up for and give legitimacy to, his socialist programs.

Not a peep about inventors, entrepreneurs, savers, long term investors, and all the other risk taking individuals that made and make America great. Instead the government will give a little protection to the corporate oligarchy as long as they pay their protection money (or give their "support" to the socialist endeavor).
