Israel Holding Parliamentary Election

Israelis vote Tuesday in parliamentary elections that will determine the successor to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

Israeli politicians scrambled to woo voters on the last day of campaigning Monday, as opinion polls showed a narrowing gap between the two main parties.

They are former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing Likud party and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni’s ruling centrist Kadima Party. The far-right Yisreil Beiteinu party is third in the race....

Al Qaeda leader threatens India in latest video

LAHORE: A video received by the BBC from an Al Qaeda leader believed killed last year warned India that it would have to pay a ‘heavy price’ if it tried to attack Pakistan.

Sheikh Mustafa Abu Yazeed, who had been operating in Afghanistan and Pakistan, was reported killed in a US drone strike in August 2008.

In the 20-minute video in Arabic, Yazeed said: “We will bring mujahideen and suicide attackers from all over the Muslim world to confront you [India]. They will target your economic centres and raze them to the ground,” Yazeed said in the video sent to BBC. He said Al Qaeda leader Aiman Al-Zawahiri had made the decision to kill former Pakistani prime minister and PPP chairwoman Benazir Bhutto....

New Terror Scare in Saudi Arabia - Alert for 85 al Qaeda Suspects
In what is being described as an "unprecedented global alert," the International Criminal Police Organization
today issued its largest-ever most wanted list for 85 terrorist suspects,
who are sought by Saudi Arabia for allegedly plotting attacks
against the country and for suspected links to al Qaeda.
"Never before has INTERPOL been asked to alert the world
about so many dangerous fugitives at one time,"
said Secretary General Ronald K. Noble in a statement.
"We know that we are approaching the
16th anniversary of the first World Trade Center bombing on Feb. 26, 2009
and therefore must be especially vigilant of fugitive al Qaeda terrorists."

Thank you, Diogenesis.
Forgive me while I question Saudi Arabia’s faux-concern.

Thanks, and my apologies in advance: Got a new IT guy whose only thought in life seems to be that restricting access to computers (and especially the internet) is the very best way he can do his job.

After a whole seven days on the job, he’s got me FRlurking and over half the office ready to feed him to the coyotes.

..just shakin’ my head. Guy’s gotta be an Obama voter.

The paramilitary force is well trained and equipped, and has successfully defeated the Pakistani Army in multiple engagements. Inside Pakistan, the Shadow Army has been active in successful Taliban campaigns in North and South Waziristan, Bajaur, Peshawar, Khyber, and Swat.

In Afghanistan, the Shadow Army has conducted operations against Coalition and Afghan forces in Kunar, Nuristan, Nangahar, Kabul, Logar, Wardak, Khost, Paktika, Paktia, Zabul, Ghazni, and Kandahar provinces.

Vel, I'll consider them well trained and well armed when they defeat US forces on a regular basis in toe to toe combat. Other than those specific standards this "shadow army" is about as effective as a bunch of hotel security guards in Mumbai. To give them any more credit than that is to play into the propaganda aims of the enemy.

Obama will look at an attack as a way to get re-elected. It should be a way to get him out of office if it happens for dropping our guard.

Belgian “Al Qaeda Cell” in touch with Architect of Transantlantic Airline Plot

By Paul Cruickshank

This connection is revealed in the CNN program “One Woman’s War,” my documentary about the extraordinary story of Malika el Aroud, a Belgian woman who authorities say has become an icon of the global jihadist movement.

The documentary will make its CNN domestic debut this afternoon at 2.30pm Eastern.

My profile of Malika el Aroud, “Love in the Time of Terror,” is also the lead feature in the March issue of Marie Claire.

CNN’s report is below:

Belgian “Al Qaeda Cell” linked to 2006 Airline Plot

An alleged terror cell rounded up hours before European Union leaders were due to attend an summit in Brussels last December had ties to the very top leadership of al Qaeda, counterterrorism officials told CNN.

Brussels, Belgium (CNN). — Last December 11, fourteen individuals were arrested in the early hours of the morning in one of the largest counterterrorism operations in Belgian history. Six were eventually charged with participation in a terrorist group. The others were released.

The officials told CNN that the alleged cell had connections to a senior al Qaeda operative who helped orchestrate the 2006 “Airline Plot,” widely recognized as al Qaeda’s most serious terror attempt since the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States.

The source could not reveal the operative’s name to CNN because of the ongoing investigation. The 2006 plot involved plans to simultaneously blow up U.S.-bound passenger jets with liquid explosives hid in carry-on luggage.....
