Way to go NH! Let's see the rest of our states take this first step to reminding the federal government that WE are in charge, not them.

You have to post something to have a successful thread.

You’re right. Sorry about that. This appears to be a resolution affirming New Hampshire’s rights as a sovereign entity, separate and apart from its membership in the republic, whereby New Hampshire can just say no to any policies of the federal government with which they do not agree. It appears to reaffirm the idea that the States are allowed to govern ourselves.

As I understand it, four other states are now working on their own versions of this legislation. I hope they are all successful.

Pretty stunning from now-blue state NH.

I also see that MA is once again trying to put pressure on some NH businesses to collect sales tax from MA residents who purchase things in NH. Haven't we been through this before?

Seems more like lip service from a state that is going from a once proud Conservative state to another sad NE Dem hell hole.

So somebody introduced a bill in the state legislature. What are the chances it will even come to a vote?

I’m sure the Feds are terribly impressed by this.

Your Papers, Please! How would you enforce it?

Your Papers, Please! How would you enforce it?

They have targeted a tire store in Salem, NH in particular and yes they want to force the company to check papers (i.e., driver's licenses).

Years ago I remember a story about MA state cruisers parking in NH Mall parking lots and writing down MA license plates with the intent to follow up to make sure they filed MA sales tax paperwork. The MA state police were supposedly "escorted" out of the state by the NH state police. I don't know if it's a true story or an urban legend.

You are kidding! MA would be conducting surveillance out of their jurisdiction at the least.

Like I said, don’t know if it’s a true story or an urban myth. However, the MA tax form actually expects people to declare anything they bought outside of the state and pay sales tax on it to MA. Or as an alternative one can purchase a “get out of jail free card” by paying a percentage of one’s income to the state to cover all purchase.

I don't doubt for an instant what you write is true. Thanks.
