Some people would include FORREST GUMP in the list but many other conservatives disagree. I’d like to hear both sides of the issue.
What about “Hanoi Hilton?”
Call me crazy, but Field of Dreams should be on the list. It honors both baseball AND fathers. Can’t get more true-blue American (and conservative) than that. :-)
One of my favorites, and my husband and I quote from Forrest Gump all the time. We even named our puppy Forrest, since we got him when the movie was out and we couldn’t come up with a great name, we decided Forrest would be a great name, and it was. AND that dog “was a runnin’ fool”.
Forrest Gump was a pathetic comedy that was more like a fairy tale.
I wouldn’t consider it conservative either, with the AIDS glorification.
I don’t see the conservative message in Forest Gump.
The theme of Forrest Gump that I viewed as conservative it would be that an ‘ordinary’ guy with particularly steep challenges can have a significant positive impact on the people around him as he lives a free and imaginative life.
Hadn’t seen ‘An American Carol’ but am suspicious of movies tailor made or labeled for a particular audience. Liberal movies never declare themselves as for liberals - they just are. A good movie shouldn’t have to label itself into an ideological ghetto.
nobody mentioned the dark knight???
Ground Hog Day. The underlying story of service bringing joy and happiness is found when you start thinking of other people’s well being really had spiritual undertones.
There have been many interesting choices here. Some chosen I didn’t think were conservative at all but conservatism is in the eye of the beholder.
I’ll add-
“I Am David” - about a kid who escapes from a communist prison.
“Frequency”- murder mystery/sci-fi take on the importance of fathers.
“Incredibles”, “Toy Story” 1&2, ‘Muppet Christmas Carol’
“Lord of the Rings” - which would have been more conservative if they made Frodo the hero of the book.
“Serenity”, “I Am Legend”, “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, “We Are Marshall”
