Menino's fortunate son (Boston corruption)
Boston Herald ^ | January 6, 2009 | Dave Wedge

Posted on 01/06/2009 7:14:06 PM PST by Lovebloggers

The detective son of Mayor Thomas M. Menino moonlights as a “safety engineer” for a politically wired construction powerhouse that has landed millions in city contracts and regularly turns to the mayor’s team for necessary permits, the Herald has learned.

Detective Thomas M. Menino Jr., a 13-year Hub cop, landed the plum, 20-hour-a-week post with Suffolk Construction in January 2008, even as he pulls down a taxpayer-funded $86,000 annual base salary in the department’s intelligence unit. In 2007, he made $137,000 as a police officer with overtime and detail pay, records show.

Chicago ain't got nothin' on Boston.

It's a tough call, but I think Chicago is far more thug. Sure, Boston once elected a mayor from his jail cell, but Chicago had Al Capone as defacto mayor for while.

The issue isn’t Menino in particular, or any other machine politician. When you have a large state with its hand in everything, this happens. Its a simple fact. You will never have “clean” government when you have large government. Government is corrupt, inefficient and rotten to the core—to think otherwise is living in fantasyland.

Reporter Dave Wedge ought to be a hero out here on FR.com.

His incessant unrelenting media assaults on Mitt Romney in the local Boston Herald did much to get that chump McCain the Republican nomination for President last year.

Wedge’s particular brand of “journalism” ought to be condemned by FR,com. Instead, he in fact represents the very worst of what FReepers appear to be to thinking persons.

IMHO!

Just look at the "Big Dig" and you can see corruption.

I watched a program on either TLC, TDC, or National Geo. about the so called Big Dig.

On segment showed guys, at the bottom of a pit, with shovels in a pit near a dirt wall. A second person was posted above this structured pit. One person filled a 5 gallon bucket with dirt, the other pulled it up.

BTW they had multiple pits at the time of video, but only the one being videotaped had people working it. Both made Union scale.

So why is the "Big Dig" over budget?
