Please make NASA explain why they want to re-invent the wheel with the Ares 1 instead of using the off-the-shelf Delta IV Heavy

What do you think the NASA budget is?? 200 Billion a year? 150 billion a year?? Heh?

Try 15 billion a year.. And we just pissed 700 billion into a bailout of stupid ass Financial Service CEO's , with Zero planning another 800 billion bailout of idiot bad borrowers and other freeloaders.

You people are ridiculous. The payback from what little we spend on NASA far exceeds all those worthless transfer payments. But ignorance is why O boy is President, I guess.

You are completely correct in every way. Does anyone think there will be ANY real benefit from cutting the NASA budget?

It’s a rounding error in all the bailouts and actually produces real results. I knew if the democrats got in charge again the first things that’ll go are our scientific programs. clinton killed the SSC, and the LHC is a smaller, less capable version.. And the europeans get the glory for it.

Yup. The One and the rest of the libs will spend trillions on every social program they can think of. But 15 billion for the space program is too much for them. The new masters of space will be China. While they will be sending people to the Moon and Mars, we will well on our way to third world status.

I had a similar "debate" with my Mom and her friend a few years ago. They were complaining about "all that money" that was spent on space exploration, the 25 billion that was spent on Apollo over a 10 year period, and how "terrible" that was. So I told them that the budget for just one year of the ADC program (welfare) was 30 billion, why didn't they complain as strongly about that?

It was a classic moment in liberal-conservative "debate". There was utter silence for about four or five seconds, accompanied by complete deer-in-the-headlights looks. Then they erupted in protests, saying things like "Don't say that!", and "You can't compare the two!" So I asked, why not? I mean, on the one hand, we're spending taxpayer money on something that actually produces something, paying people who at least show up for work every day. On the other hand, we're paying over ten times as much to people who sit on their butts all day, maybe the most work they do is popping out another kid every year. The response? Crickets.
