Racism: My Teen’s Takeaway from the Obama Campaign (Mean Rural Southerners Theme)
Business Week ^ | 11-20-2008 | Anne Newman

Posted on 11/20/2008 1:11:54 PM PST by Colonel Kangaroo

When my husband and our 15-year-old decided to campaign for Barack Obama in the North Carolina mountains near my parents’ home, I thought our daughter would come away with some early schooling in the arts of organizing and good ’ole shoe-leather politicking. BusinessWeek’s ethics code prevents me from campaigning or showing my political stripes, but that prohibition doesn’t extend to my family. And so, we thought, our high school sophomore would get the civics lesson of her life.

Reader, what lessons do you think this election teaches us about our democracy?

I learned a valuable lesson about doing our civic duty from this article.

In fact I've already called up social services to have these people arrested for child abuse.

This is a load of hogwash. Did a child write this article?

All I will say is ..I work in a predominately black area.... and yes...RACE did play a factor in the Presidential election....all they knew was Obama was black and he was their man...Nuff said....so these types of articles really tick me off. The bias and racism from the black community truly shined throughout this whole election process.

The news media seems to have a vested interest in perpetuating the illusion that blacks are the only victims, and that whites never suffer at the hands of blacks.

This is the reply I submitted. I doubt they will post it.

“Funny how quickly the author was to spot racism in a shopkeeper’s use of the word “yep” and yet she is oblivious to the fact that for twenty years Obama warmed the pews of, and contributed large sums of money to, a so-called church that spewed racisim on a weekly basis to cheering crowds. The author is right about one thing. Racisim is alive and well in America.”

She missed the whole point. Of course there is racism: It’s what got Obama elected.

Does anybody think that if a white junior one-term Senator from Illinois announced he was running for President... that he’d have gotten anything other than laughed out of the room? Of course not.

I wonder what the coverage would have been like if the races and political affiliations had been reversed? Hmmm....

All we have to do to answer that question is look back at the campaign of Alan Keyes in 2000.

Can I puke now?

I have “an almost 15 year old daughter” and I am from the south. Do I have a rebel flag? NO! Did I vote for obama? NO!
What did I teach my daughter about in this election cycle. I taught her that a president (no matter what race) should respect the people he/she is to govern.
What did I teach her about providing for herself? I taught her that government is not the answer!
What did I teach her about respect for life? I taught her that we should respect life at any stage!

Was it hard not to vote for obama? NO! Will it be hard to ever vote for a black man/women? NO! If the candidate has the platform that I can support it will not matter what race, I will vote for that platform and that person!

All that happened here was that Grossmann had administered to her a valuable civics lesson very similar to the one administered to the Juden of Germany in 1933 and following. Let's hope she takes it more seriously than they did.

What? When did they change that rule?

I mean now that I don’t have to worry about all the blacks, the white liberal idiots and those close-minded yet “tolerant” leftists badgering me about it, I might start flying my rebel flag again!

My Great, Great Grandfather (who never owned a slave) fought for the Confederate Army in Texas. I am proud that he was patriotic enough to make a stand for state’s rights (not for slavery)!

I agree with you about Business Week. I also stopped subscribing, and for the same reasons.

The writer of this condescending article drove away from the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina full of smug self-satisfaction at her superiority over the benighted hillbillies who live there. And her “blonde, blue-eyed” offspring had learned a lesson in empty self-esteem.

Her whole approach to politics seems to be based on an obsession with race. Seems “racist” to me.

Wouldn't it be nice if the author's 15 year old grows into a 19 year old campaigning for Palin in 2012? I'd like to see an article in Business Week about THAT!

BusinessWeek’s ethics code prevents me from campaigning or showing my political stripes, but that prohibition doesn’t extend to my family.

I'm sure that BusinessWeek cannot tell your family what they can't do, but your writing about your child's experiences certainly treads the line... or didn't you think about that?

I had minor dealings with “journalists” from BW, WSJ and Barrons. Like most journalism majors they usually are libs even if they write about business.

The author is delusional.

Obama won BECAUSE of racism. The fact the democrats have a lock step of the black vote speaks volumes about the political weapon of racism is alive and well in the democrat party ranks.

Hopefully newsweek will soon follow us news and world report.

The TRUE definition of racism is very much like “combat dead math”. Here, let me explain:

Racism is NOT 92+% of African-Americans voted for the African-American on the Democratic ticket (while the last two elections had about 80% voting for Democrats).

However five “displayed” Confederate flags is OBVIOUSLY racism. Because five flags on display equals at least 750,000 sheet wearing, cross burning KKK members!

Now of course these numbers are not exact, I haven’t done combat dead math since 1991! But, I am pretty sure I am close.

Instead she uses a column in a supposed business magazine to spew her left wing agenda and to denigrate southern white folks. so much for any ethics code. D

id her employer McGraw Hill apply that “ethics” code to their S&P division is rating worthless mortgage securities with triple A ratings?

Note how her parents live in the mtns of NC because they probably used to live in some high tax lib NE hell hole state that they ruined with lib policies.

They retired to move to a fiscally responsible red state with a high quality of life. They retired to paradise so they can ruin it and insult the locals who do not run their states like a third world country. Incredible.

President (Elect) Obama has the potential to set race relations in this country back fifty years.

I’m actually considering getting a confederate battle flag or navy jack to fly from the masthead of my boat, but I’ll probably opt for the more subtle bonnie blue flag.

Evidently she missed the black man marching on the bridge in Asheville, NC with a confederate flag.

Yep, it’s not racist when blacks go 90-10 in favor of the black guy.
