I checked the time of stay in hospital during that time, after this story started, and the information I came up with was the average hospital stay post birth was 5.3 days. Given that, his birth was registered before Ann was even released from the hospital! It is beyond me how a woman could travel 5 and a 1/2 hours by plane from Honolulu to Seattle without knowing how to change a diaper. Articles I have read say Ann was staying with a friend of her mother which would explain who changed diapers before Ann’s visit with Susan Blake and it is possible that the stewardesses did the honors on the plane trip. At that time if I remember correctly stewardesses were not allowed to be married so one of them with motherly instincts might have been thrilled to change diapers. Who helped Ann with Jr when the plane took off is another question. Infants generally react with the change in pressure which affects their ears resulting in all out screaming, and one solution would be hold one’s hands over the babies ears to minimize the effect. Ann, not even having had babysat as a teenager, would be ignorant of this and many other matters regarding infant care.
