Actually, Palin, who has approximately 1/1000th of McCain's aggregate campaign experience had much better message discipline than he did. Everybody in this campaign said things that made everybody cringe. Palin was no worse than anyone else. I don't think we saw enough of unedited (or unscripted) Palin to actually have much idea of her capabilities and limitations. Except that she could deliver oratorically; about that, there is no doubt.

By all accounts FDR was a lightweight. Harry Truman was no genius. But our Party allows the other side to get away with calling Reagan "an amiable dunce," and I think there are some on this thread who would agree with that assessment if they'd been politically active in the 1970's and 1980's.

It's part of the liberal narrative: We're dumb. They're smart. They're sophisticated urbanites. We're naive hillbillies. It's crap. It's time our side stopped aiding and abetting.
