Radio host Rush Limbaugh, the loudest conservative voice in American politics , today blasted John McCain's presidential campaign as weak and said Barack Obama's election as president is an opportunity to purge the Republican Party of candidates who abandon conservative principles.
"McCain's whole campaign was a concession speech," said Limbaugh in his post-election analysis. "We've now demonstrated to everyone how to lose."
Limbaugh dismissed any notion that victories by Democrats in the White House and Congress meant a repudiation of right-leaning principles.
Limbaugh explained conservatism was not on the ballot.
"We haven't been on the ballot since 1994," he said, noting that if Republicans wanted to win elections, they should not put so-called "moderates" on the ballot.
"The conservative movement does not need to be rebuilt," he said. "We had some people abandon the conservative movement, and they need to be abandoned."
The broadcaster called last night's results "an opportunity for cleansing ... like we haven't seen in a long time."

Rush is THE MAN, MY FEELINGS EXCATLY
Huckabee said that his most important issue was securing the border and deporting as many illegal aliens as possible. He was the only candidate who signed a “No Amnesty” pledge. His literature said that, while he was a governor, he cut taxes or fees 95 times, within 10.5 years. It said that, while he was governor, he proved that he’s pro-life and pro-gun rights. Which of those views is not conservative?
I never liked John McCain, but I do give him credit for Sarah Palin, which makes Rush’s point, in a way. How, really, were we supposed to get jazzed about global warming and cancelled gun shows and Ruth Bader Ginsberg on the SCOTUS???
McCain flat-out said we had nothing to fear from his opponent. Then he failed to identify just what the threat was, and let 0 reinvent himself as a faux centrist and even a patriot. Unable to see any significant difference in positions, the great uninformed TV-watching “swing” voter class naturally chose the young, charismatic, “clean young black man” over the senescent one.
"Fully 62 percent of voters said the economy was the most important issue, six times more than cited the war in Iraq (10 percent), health care (9 percent) or terrorism (9 percent)." - Politico
In other words, it's the economy, stupid. McCain stated early on that he knew nothing about economics. Sarah spoke only about energy and that is now passe.
I blame the GOP for letting Iowa and NH pick our candidate. As I (and others) have stated elsewhere, they need to close the primaries and move the early primaries to states that went RED this time. Also-NO CAUCUSES.
One of the Conservative talking points of the election regarding Obama’s 95% tax cut promise was that 40% of the people don’t pay taxes. Well, can you tell me why 40% of people would be interested in a tax cutting argument? Please, someone enlighten me?
When Obama promised the 95% tax cut, perhaps McCain could have replied something to the effect of a tax cut to 100% of the people who actually DID pay taxes.
Conservatism isn’t a “sound bite” philosophy but it is a gut philosophy as opposed to the heart philosophy of liberalism. Joe the Plumber did more to communicate conservative principles in two sentences than the RNC AND conservatives have done in countless hours of air time.
Rush is wise but he is wrong here. There’s always that “We must purify ourselves” thing going after a defeat. That’s how the Arab terrorists got so hot after Israel kicked their behinds a few times. Hitler in the bunker was the same way, “The Germanpeople deserve to die because they weren’t dedicated enough or pure enough, whatever.’
How about this for the GOP, “We lost because we are stupid and don’t what we’re talking about. We put way too much trust into laisse faire capitalism and we listened to all the stupid little geeks with their spreadsheet programs.
We lost because we are way too greedy and appealed to peoples greed like “”Lower taxes” is the chief thing on everybody’s mind. But,being the GOP, we just assumed everybody in the universe is as greedy as we are.
We lost because we lost touch with humanity and don’t give a rat’s a** about the poor, the struggling, the hopeless, as long as somebody doesn’t take our precious frigging money from us.
We lost because we are a smug bunch of arrogant a**holes who really don’t give a flip about the USA, and the citizens thereof, as long as we got our piece of the pie.
That would be a good start, IMHO.
parsy, who thinks the GOP lost its way a long time ago.
Lets see: He is for Illigal Immigration (and our party platform is against that), He’s for adult-stem cell research (or party platform is against that), and he voted FOR the Bailout (our party platform is specifically against that!).
McCain a Republican?
Obama ran on a tax cut for 95% of America and accused McCain of taxing health benefits for the first time. That type of arument is NORMALLY what Republicans ran and won on. Rush is right.
You and I must be the only ones in Indiana to feel that way.
I live in Kirk’s district (Northfield), and I think that a republican congressman should agree with most of the republican platform. How do we benefit by having a republican congressman who is pro-choice, pro-gun control, pro-gay marriage, pro-spending increases, pro-illegal alien, and anti-Iraq surge? His latest rating from Gun Owners of America is 0%. A Minuteman officer told me that Kirk went to the Mexican border and gave advice to illegals, to help them sneak across the border.
Obviously, he was omitting the unborn (or the recently born) from the "we" in nothing to fear from Obama.
Open primaries are by state law...not party choice.
So if the states where open primaries exist are run by RATS, good luck with getting that law changed.
Remember. RINO’s are Vichy collaborators
New term for them Vichy Republicans
Duncan Hunter is more Reagan than Reagan himself, and he was left all alone. He had the border fence built in his district and guess what? It works!
Maybe your right that we should get rid of Kirk, but his victory was the only bit of light in the New Trier Republican headquarters last night.
There aren’t any viable conservatives unmodified. The economic, security and social conservatives all hate each other and generally vehemently agree with liberals on the other two legs and would rather see them in power than an unmodified or even 2/3s conservative.
Just can't wait for Obama to start "spreading the wealth around," huh...?
