The best analogy I've heard is this:

Media bias is like an accent, since everyone in the MSM has the same liberal yankee "accent" then there is no bias (to each other)! The conservative southern "accent" screams at them, I am different!!!

"I think Rush has already in the past stated that he would pull the plug on his show rather than submit to the so called 'fairness doctrine'. He would move the show to satellite radio or subscription. I think he even mentioned pirate broadcasts (shades of VOA!).

It would be an incredibly stupid move for Congress to make, which is why they are likely to try it if Obama gets in. 600+ radio stations would likely go belly up along with tens of thousands of jobs; not to mention the destruction of businesses who need to get their ads out to an audience."

Satellite radio will be covered as well as AM/FM. Nobody is going to waste $ setting up a short wave station offshore as the signal can be very easily blocked.

When have the Democrats ever cared about putting small businesses out of business? The left will rejoice if they can punish 600+ radio stations by putting them and their employees in the unemployment line. They have NO problem destroying small business and making more people dependent on gov't handouts for their very existence.

Senator GOVERNMENT knows he cannot win legitimately, so THAT ONE has now called in the GOON SQUADS to silence any opposition. The Osama HUSSEIN Obama brownshirts want to “prosecute anyone who lies or has a misleading ad” about THAT ONE....

Guess they should start prosecuting SENATOR GOVERNMENT first, since all his ads are chocked full of lies and misleading statements!

Voters should be SCREAMING about ANTI-FREE SPEECH PUBLIC SERVANTS who are abusing their positions. Civil Rights attorneys should be ALL OVER these ba$tard$!

Farewell to any Christian station which opposed gay rights or abortion. It would have to then give “equal time” to pro-gay rights and pro-abortion speakers.

And they would have to consider going off the air before doing that.

Precisely.

Barack Hussein Odinga Obama will run America like Kim Jung Il runs North Korea.

Americans need to wake up, and realize what will happen if this monster gets into the White House.

I am not sure if satellite radio is subject to the FCC. If it is not, the rats will make it subject to the FCC. I agree that the rats will enact the law regardless of its consequences. The rats are more than happy to put conservatives out of work.

I think the internet may be a viable alternative. Internet content is not subject to the FCC. If talk radio moves to the internet, the rats will have a difficult time to regulate it. It will be up to popular talk shows to move their operations to the internet. I am not sure what will happen to the many local stations that specialize in talk radio. If there emerges a viable portable streaming solution, the internet may be viable for at least the major talk radio outlets. Wimax and 3G networks may provide a reasonable vehicle to support portable streaming of internet content.

I just posted this on a _liberal_ board (under their
“Conservative Opinions” sub-board):

>>Brian Anderson writes in the NY Post that a Pres Obama and a Dem controlled Congress could act to bring back
the (un) Fairness Doctrine, either fully or by “subterfuge”. A desire to have more local talk on is commendable
but having stations cater to alleged “fairness”, he feels, would lead many stations to drop talk radio altogether.
How many lawyers would it take to ensure total “fairness”? (I’ll believe “fairness” when 50 per cent conservative
opinions make it to NPR—or to network news)

(link to article), then:

>>Shouldn’t the free market decide? If liberals can put out great talk radio that stations will want to run and will
get great ratings, I’m all for it. But government regulated “Fairness” is unconstitutional. It’s an infringement of
freedom of speech if not freedom of the press. (Can the government mandate that Rolling Stone be 50
per cent right wing? Hey, fair is fair.) FREEDOM of stations to run what they want.
Rep Mike Pence of Indiana has sponsored a Broadcaster Freedom Act that would hopefully keep a FD
off our hands.

Yes you are missing something big time mainly that it won’t be liberal radio shows it will be folks calling in to your local radio show & demanding air time to “refute & disprove” what Rush said on the air & if the station has to give them air time that would otherwise be sold as advertising time they lose money . Also you will have all sorts of crackpots calling & demanding that they get to “refute & disprove “ what the other callers claimed & they also will be required by law to be put on the air .

In no time at all station management will decide that Rush has got to go just so the station as a bussiness can survive & you will have elavator muzik & cooking showson the air & thats it.

>>If a station ran a big-audience conservative program like, say, Laura Ingraham’s, it would also have to run a left-leaning alternative.

Exactly—I’m listening to Laura Ingraham right now (on
her new Boston affiliate, WRKO 680) and thought, so
they’d have to follow it up by running three hours of
Stephanie Miller—instead of Rush. Then later on, they would have to run four hours of lib talk to make up for their
four hours of Howie Carr. Not good. They would rather change the format.

“Matthews, Olberman, Maddow”

To the upcoming Obama censuring thugs, those guys are “fair and balanced” already.

Only Fox and Rush, Hannity, etc are biased.

Catch up.

Of course Plan B is to organize on the right and demand time to refute Katie Kouric, etc.

That and storm lobbies of Newsweek and ABC like ACORN.

The difference for satellite radio, though, even if they try to bring it under FCC control, is that it actually has stations devoted entirely to left talk and right talk - therefore if you want to hear the opposing viewpoint, change the station.

God help us. Communism will be here to stay.

Gotta hand it to the communists in this country. They slowly took over all the institutions of information like the Universities, the print press, and the broadcast. They are in a position to make the real change they think will fit their marxist utopia.

“Or would for instance Matthews, Olberman, Maddow, et al be forced to provide equal time for conservative op-eds?”

Of course it wouldn’t. They do not have a liberal slant to their broadcasts! They are “journalists”!

You can make the same assertion for broadcast radio. There are stations that feature left wing talk radio. Overall, there are a lot of left wing talk shows. The problem is that left wing talk radio draws a small audience. Satellite radio is different because there is only one owner of the medium. Satellite radio may be able to satisfy the rat masters by increasing the number of left wing shows or other rat favored programming. I am not sure about the revenue model on satellite radio. If individual shows must provide ad revenue, I am not sure how the left wing shows survive unless the bandwidth is very cheap.
