Ayers had a speech in Nebraska (IIRC) that he had scheduled for November 15th. The people at the University claimed the dis-invited him due to security issues & threats. It was the majority opinion that the reason is more likely to have been pressure from alumni, the Governor who spoke out against having him speak, and the public in general as this was a public university. I’m not saying that it’s not a distinct possibility that there was a threat, however, there was already extreme pressure to cancel the speech for a while before they came out with that reason.
There was an article posted here at FR about this. I unfortunately can’t remember the name of the article. It might be able to be found through search for “ayers Cancels Speech” or something. I’d look it up, but I’ve got to get off the computer (I’ve been writing a lot this morning and I need to get some stuff done around the house! LOL).
Too bad they did not ...
1) let him speak, even if security had to be hired
2) on condition that he answered questions from EVERYBODY
3) and if he ran off, security detail would be called off
Free speech, in the GOOD OLD DAYS, meant dying to protect even offensive speech.
I have no problem with offensive speech. It’s only a few moves to corner a sack of !@#$ like Ayers, or any Commie for that matter.
Once exposed as murderous lunatics, they are neutered of any romantic Che like status.
