Black and white: Playing The race card
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | Sunday, October 12, 2008 | Debra J. Saunders

The race card is back.

After Tuesday night's debate, Washington party-crossover dean David Gergen announced it was "too early" to declare victory for Democrat Barack Obama, not because the election is a month away, but because "Obama is black."

After GOP running mate Sarah Palin criticized Obama for seeing America as "imperfect enough that he's palling around with terrorists who would target their country," an Associated Press story suggested that "her attack was unsubstantiated and carried a racially tinged subtext that John McCain himself may come to regret."

A racially tinged subtext? Palin may have exaggerated about Obama "palling around" with William Ayers, a founder of the Vietnam War-era Weather Underground, which was responsible for a number of bombings across the country including quite possibly a 1970 explosion that killed a San Francisco police officer. I don't think Obama and Ayers were pals so much as co-believers of a trendy left-leaning and standards-hostile philosophy on education.

And, Ayers is white. So it's hard to figure out how the AP writer construed Palin's remarks as "racially tinged," unless you see race in absolutely everything.

The "subtext" - to borrow the word - of the race-baiting charge is that if Obama should lose, then it will be because of racist white voters, who misled polling organizations by not saying that they would not vote for the Democratic nominee simply because he is black.

You could not watch cable news last week without hearing about "the Bradley effect" - a term spawned after Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley lost the California gubernatorial election to state Attorney General George Deukmejian in 1982 by one point, despite pre-election polls that showed Bradley, who was black, had a seven-point lead.

But "the Bradley effect" was not the election-turning factor that some people saw. As Mark

It's funny they never mention that the so called racists who would deny the Messiah his due are Democrat Racists! Since, only dims will actually vote for His Holiness the rest of the clear-thinking Electorate will be voting on the issues, and don't support Obama based on his character and policy deficiencies.

The best justification for exposing Obama’s Black Liberation Theology is if McCain wins, and Obama’s Black Liberation Theology is not exposed, the Left and MSM will be chanting ‘Obama lost because of Racism’.

Congressman John Lewis says McCain is a modern George Wallace. Is that the race card? Expect the SF newspaper to slam Lewis real soon......yep, very, very soon.

Obama is showing how much he deserves the office of POTUS. He is showing everone that you don’t need to do a better job and prove yourself to achieve goals.

All you have to do is belong to the right party, the right minority groups, and go to the right “Elite” University. Why it doesn’t matter that you have no experince or proven leadership ability.

Your friends in the Democratic party will help you even if they have to sabotage the Financial Markets. It’s also reasonable for your fellow party loyalists in the media to lie distort and personally destroy your opponents.

After all Obama is trying to help our Country regain it’s standing in the world and be a better place. So if he has to lie and cover up his past to gain and Office it’s for their own good, they are just stupid hicks clinging to guns and religion.

Don’t worry you porn unenlightend fools Obama will take care of your guns and religon for you. Don’t worry or ask questions the messiah is in charge. IGNORANCE IS BLISS...Citizen.

“The best justification for exposing Obama’s Black Liberation Theology is if McCain wins, and Obama’s Black Liberation Theology is not exposed, the Left and MSM will be chanting ‘Obama lost because of Racism’.”

If there are more Democrats then Republicans as the MSM and their pollsters like to believe, and knowing that Republicans will not vote Democrat, if McCain wins, it only makes sense that the racists are Democrats.

But then again, that makes sense.

They don't get it. The race baiting thing is all about an attempt to preempt the Reverend Wright ads. And the bad news is it will probably work. McCain doesn't have the stomach for this fight.

Palin does but only McCain can do it and he won't.

It is sad that the MSM and team Obama have redefined the word “racist” to mean anything they want it to mean. I have heard NOTHING racist at the rallies of John McCain and Sarah Palin. Anger maybe, but racist?..No. Now even anger seems to equate to racism per the MSM. The only ones I keep hearing shout racist comments are the MSM which appears to be orchestrated by Axelrod himself. BTW, I think we will see more and more “plants” in the crowds as days go by, fueling this new strategy by Axelrod. The MSM needs to also quit talking about the Bradley effect and how white people won’t vote for Obama. It appears that Obama can play the race card whenever and where ever he wants as in his calling attention to his “white mother and white grandparents”, “looking different than other presidents on the dollar bill”, “funny name”, etc. He needs to quit hiding behind the race card. This race baiting by his campaign and the MSM has to be stopped or at least recognized for what it is...a distraction from his very real flaws of integrity and honesty that the voters have a right to know.
