Report: Palin Asked Rick Warren For Advice

Posted by Vaughn Ververs| Comments5

GOP VP nominee Sarah Palin called influential pastor Rick Warren earlier this week to ask for advice on how to handle the criticism that has come her way, The Hill reports.

In a California radio interview, Warren said that Palin had called him to seek help in dealing with the “unfair, unjust” attacks she said she believes had been launched at her since being tapped as John McCain’s running mate. Warren recounted the conversation, saying he responded by saying, “the question I asked her was 'how can I pray for you?'"

Warren said Palin asked him to “send her some bible verses on how do you deal with the unfair, unjust attacks and the mean-spirited criticism that comes in."

Is everyone on this thread nuts or just complete idiots? Take a deep breath and think.

1. Her pastor is from a tiny town in Alaska and has probably never had real life expereience with this type of thing.

2. Warren pastors a hughe church in LA, so he probably does have experience counseling others in situations similar to Palin’s. For all we know her pastor may have referred her to Warren as someone with more experience in this area.

3. She probably asked Warren to “break the news” before the MSM. Can you imagine the rumors the MSM would be running with if they had dug this is “Palin talks to Warren becuase her pastor says women should stay pregnant, barefoot, and in the kitchen.”

4. She may have talked to him about a wide range of issues, but by putting this single one out they cut off any interest in anything else.

5. As far as I can tell, Warren’s chruch leans towards the conservative side. He said flat out he believes life begins at conception and is opposed to abortion.

6. Most people that watched the Saddleback forum came away with an impression of Warren as being a reasonable, evenhanded guy. By associating herself with Warren, it makes it hard for the left to portray her as a right wing zelot.

Rick Warren is no pastor, he’s a community organizer...

None of us are nuts or idiots, just close, longtime observers of Warren. We know his slimy ways all too well.

Rick Warren should be ashamed of himself.

Can someone confirm if this is true? I highly doubt Rick Warren would be such an unprofessional unethical person (ala Dr. Phil and Britney)

Obama went to that whacked out minister of his for advice and got the name for his book. Is that BIG NEWS? Nope.

If Rick Warren had had an affair with a fellow church woman - who was then fired - the MSM would be on that story like white on rice. But Wright? Hardly a peep.

I just lost some respect for her.

I am constantly amazed at how fickle some FReepers are. You lost respect because you read what could well be lies by this a**hat pastor put out by CBS, how wonderful for you. I seriously doubt she called this clown for anything.

I gave 6 reasonable reasons why it may have occured like it did. Including reasons that benefited Palin politically.

Yet, except for one other person, the response to this thread has been totally one sided (and pretty far to one side.) You would have thought Warren called her a pig with lipstick.

Excellent insight.
The Hill, source of the story, reports:
UPDATE: Palin’s camp calls to say that the Alaska Gov. was returning Warren’s call. According a Palin spokeswoman, Warren called her on Saturday September 6 and she returned his call on Monday September 8. The Monday phone call is when the above conversation described by Warren took place.

Just as we thought. Attention addict/power broker wannabe Warren calls Palin. She returns his call, which he spins to “she called me,” as if she was seeking his advice. Knowing Warren, he probably suggested every bit of the rest of the conversation to Palin, and to be polite she agreed that he could send her some Bible verses. Warren spins the whole thing as if she was seeking him out.

How on earth did Christianity, Christian charity, and Christian politicians ever, ever, ever make it this long without the self-important self promoter RICK WARREN??

Strange that he would share the details of their convesation.

If this is true, it is a gross violation of pastoral confidentiality.

Rick Warren is still Rick Warren.

In this case, I’m going to assume that Rick W cleared with Sarah before that conversation ended what he could share and what he couldn’t.

Maybe. But even that appears quite odd.

So much for pastoral confidentiality.

Reminds me of Seinfeld episode 112 -- The Postponement -- here Elaine, who is not Jewish, confides to the local Rabbi, who has a cable TV show, the she is jealous that George is engaged:

Rabbi: [On TV] The prophet Isaah tells us without friends our lives are empty and meaningless.

George: Wait. Whoa! That's the Rabbi: from Elaine's building. I just met this guy the other day.

Rabbi: A young lady I know, let's call her Elaine:, happened to find herself overwhelmed with feelings of resentment and hostility for her friend, let's call him George:. She felt that George was somewhat of a loser and that she was the one who deserved to be married first. She also happened to mention to me that her friend had wondered if going to a prostitute while you're engaged is considered cheating. His feeling was they're never going to see each other again so what's the difference. But that is a subject for another sermon. Now, I'd like to close with a psalm.

I think Sarah would be better off coming here to FR for support and advice.

Rick Warren is not one I would turn to for advice...

It is strange that he would share the conversation. I don’t like to have conversations that I think might be shared. I fall into sharing things myself but I have become very sensitive about NOT “sharing” conversations with others.

Actually, I tend to think that the caller might have been someone other than Mrs. Palin, and that the whole thing is a setup.I suspect you are correct.
