Juan thinks the election is about Bush's third term against change, change, change. Juan uses Bubba's Candidate X vs. Y analogy which favors McCain. Brit says the election is pretty close favoring Barry. Mac needs to address the economy and has to draw on Barry's weakness on energy. There is a problem for Barry--he almost lost to Mrs. Clinton. If Barry loses, we will look to the fateful moment when he didn't pick Mrs. C. Sarah may not have been chosen if Mrs. C. was on the ticket. He may win, the country wants change--but it ain't done!
Mara thinks the Dems will make McCain into McBush...Obama has a good ground game, the base is revved up and it's tough to win when your party is in power eight years. And then the Dems had good voter registration.
Bill points out that the complaints against Mac not having an economic agenda just means he doesn't have a LIBERAL economic agenda. His campaign needn't shy away from economic, energy or health plan issues. He's in good shape and it's going to be very hard to make Mac/Palin into W's third term.
Juan says--well, Repub economic policies haven't worked. Brit jumps in for the smackdown--Juan, the truth of the matter is that the economy grew under unbelievable headwinds including 9/11 and Katrina in most of these eight years. The jobs out of this economy is a huge number. There's no doubt we're in a bad patch and that's a burden that Mac must carry but what does Barry have to offer? He offers pre-Clinton Dem ideas, the same old stuff. Higher taxes, more regulations, tough on free trade. These ideas are older than old. This flies in the face of Barry's message of change. These prescriptions are the same old medicine. Juan, if you look at the percentage of taxes the rich pay--it is higher than ever.
Mara and Brit think this race is a very conventional one and will depend on the base. Chris asks if Sarah can go another month without her answering questions. Brit--I don't think the country gives a fig if she answers questions from reporters or not. They do care whether they get a good look at her and they will. Bill suggests a town hall debate and not with reporters. Chris slams the desk and jokes that he demands she appear on the Sunday shows.

Speaking of old drunks, how big a headache did Obummer have Thursday morning realizing that McCain gets to campaign with a Babe, while he has Uncle Fester. Lets face it Biden looks like an older version of Jack Elum w/the voice of Gabby Hayes. ROTFL! Talk about "straight talk"...great post!

Obama is clearly unprepared and unable to answer the questions coherently. On may questions, you wont know what he said after he says it It's definitely giggle time when Obama is interviewed. Danny Kaye would have been able to give a terrific impersonation.

Folks, I am usually at church at this hour and do not listen to the Steffi panel, but I’m home, and I just heard David Brooks say that Republicans are exhausted by 8 years of the Bush administration, and McCain will have a hard time filling senior positions. He will HAVE to appoint a number of democrats in order to staff 1600 Pa Ave.
Hardly anything makes be say Wow! any more, but that pronouncement was stunning.
I guess that is what the country club Republican group has been saying to each other!
Somehow in a country of 300 million, McCain can find competent willing people. I do expect Lieberman to be offered something, though.

That is a Zogby “online” poll... I wouldn’t take it as very useful. The first good read is going to come on this Thurs/Fri polls, after the weekend effect is worked out.

David Brooke of the NYT wins the Smarmy Media Jerk of the Week award on the George Stuffinenvelopes show. "There aren't enough Republicans to staff another administration." Good reason to elect Barack Obama, right?
Here's a better idea; reduce the staff by 50% and rent out the extra space. Then propose a budget that includes reducing Congressional staffs by 50% - measure the reduction in dollars, not headcount.
Make Washington lifers more accountable. It's like being Mayor of a town of 9,000.

Hi there RG!
I’m well, thank you. Hope those ‘global warming/climate change’ ;-) hurricanes miss FL this year and you and yours stay safe!

I didn’t watch the panel but it is kind of a funny comment from Brooks. I really like your idea though!
Is Brooks suggesting we need Maddie Halfbright, Sandy Burg(l)er, et al back in the ranks? HAHAHA

“OK Mum....Ill simply refrain from posting to you again.
Several people on the board have noted the slip Obama made today, perhaps I was reading along, and when I posted my response, I posted to the last responder on the thread at that time. It is not unusual for me to do so, once I have read several comments. If you dont like it, lump it.
Im not interested into getting into a battle because you misunderstood what I said”
A. All I asked for was a simple answer to the question of what I said...I do not want ANYTHING I say to be misunderstand that I attack Obama unwarranted...I want it to all be factual. Actually at the time of the post I had not seen the “This Week” interview, as I am in Central time and several of the freepers obviously get it an hour ahead of me. I am watching it now.
B. I am not asking you to refrain from posting to me, I just wanted you to explain what I had said...Apparently you posted to the wrong the person, happens to us all. No problem there...but please understand from your first post to me why I was confused...the very first post to me 205, seemed as though you were saying I was playing the victim and it appeared to me as though you were defending Obama...
