Georgians Eager to Rebuild Army

TBILISI, Georgia — Just weeks after Georgia’s military collapsed in panic in the face of the Russian Army, its leaders hope to rebuild and train its armed forces as if another war with Russia is almost inevitable.

Georgia is already drawing up lists of options, including restoring the military to its prewar strength or making it a much larger force with more modern equipment, like air-defense systems, modern antiarmor rockets and night-vision devices.

Officials at the Pentagon, State Department and White House confirmed that the Bush administration was examining what would be required to rebuild Georgia’s military, but stressed that no decisions had been made. The choices each pose difficult foreign policy questions.

Georgia’s decision to attack Russian and South Ossetian forces raises questions about the wisdom of further United States investment in the Georgian military, which in any case would further alienate Russia. Not doing so could lead to charges of abandoning Georgia in the face of Russian threats.

Really, are you sure you have barraks in Poti, Karaleti, Senaki, Ganmuzhuri or Akhalgori? ==

There are the peacekeepers only. According the mandate given UN.

What is to explain? Chechnya is the part of Russia. Ichkeria is gone. Chechen soldiers fight for Russia now.

I want you, the Russian expert, to explain the duplicitous nature of Russia’s argument. Why is what is “good” for the S. Ossetians “not good” for the Chechnians?

I suppose it really isn’t a surprise that The Communist New York Times blames Georgia, not Putin, for the war, and thinks we should abandon our allies to their fate.

Well, if that's what's necessary to maintain US security and prosperity, then, yes. If, rather than honoring their words, Russia had left Serbia and Germany had left Austria to duke it out alone in 1914, it would be a very different world today.

Sometimes not honoring your word can be the best thing, especially when it's with respect to bad policy.

NATO to go ahead with plans to boost Georgia's military capabilities - In a move challenging a Russian proposal to impose an arms embargo on Georgia, NATO has decided to go ahead with plans to help develop Georgia's military capabilities. Under the Partnership for Peace agreements signed between NATO and Tbilisi, the alliance will now have access to information concerning Georgia's airspace activity, according to NATO spokesman James Appathurai. NATO member countries will provide support to the Georgian government for rebuilding its defense capabilities, he said Wednesday.

Dear Austrian, You Austrians might want to actually join NATO before you expect anyone to ask you for your opinion.

That is why Russian troops stopped and didn’t take Tbilisi.

Nope, you stopped because the USA has US soldiers in Tblisi and Russian cowards are afraid of just a handful of Americans. Russians are real tough and brave when fighting weak tiny Georgia, but why don't they pick on somebody their own size? Because you fear us. You know we would kick your ass, destroy your entire invasion force and your whole Black Sea Navy in the blicnk of an eye. So cowardly Russia backed down. Just like any cowardly bully, you only pick on the weak, but run away from a real fight.

You are so full of shit that Russian state controlled media dumps on you, you cannot even fathom to imagine that all of that it true. because you put blue helmets on your soldiers that DOES NOT make them peacekeepers, you moron!
