Anderson [S.C.] man chases gay son from home
Independent Mail ^ | 7/19/08 | Pearce Adams

Violence broke out Sunday in Anderson when an 18-year-old man returned home from a gay pride parade and was assaulted by his father.

According to the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, the battering took place about 1 p.m. Sunday on P Street.

During the assault, the teen's 49-year-old father yelled, cursed, swung a baseball bat, prayed and tried to “cast the demon of homosexuality out of him,” according to the teen's version of events to Deputy S.C. Weymouth, the incident report states.

About 2 p.m. Wednesday, the teen said his father punched him when he returned to the house for clothes that he left on Sunday, the report states.

The teen told deputies that his father “has a problem with him being gay and that is why he hit him with the baseball bat Sunday,” Weymouth said in his report.

The teen filed both complaints about 10 p.m. Wednesday.

Deputies, who have not been able to make immediate contact with the teen's father, report that both incidents are under investigation.

Assault is assault. Period.

I somehow don’t think its that simple. He probably came home from the gay pride event in chaps and told his father off.

And so that would make it okay for his father to whack him with a baseball bat?

What kinds of things do you take the baseball bat to your kids for?

SO...it’s ok to hit your son with a baseball bat if he wears chaps and tells you off? I don’t think so. Sorry, that’s like a Muslim beating up his daughter for not wearing a veil. Same thing.

Well, there is a RIGHT to choice of association in this country....although the queer-pandering liberal socialist pols just do it for votes.

What a nutjob. The kid was right to file charges.

Actually, as a father, I’d say my worst nightmare would be a dead son or a sick son.

"South Carolina's taxpayer-paid advertisement describing it as "So Gay" has backfired and could cost the state precious tourism dollars following a firestorm of criticism"

Would the father assault the teenager for screwing a married woman?

Jesus Christ would take some whips to money changers in the Temple. Overturning their tables and whipping them something GOOD.

But I seriously doubt He would take a baseball bat to an errant, off-course young gay kid.

Somebody needs a lot of prayer and Christian witnessing, not black-eye pummeling.

If true, this father seems way out of line IMHO.

Good one Nick. I agree. The most we can do is tell our children the truth and love them and pray for them. Their choices are their own.

I figure the father was probably just drunk or high.

I’m going to have to come down on your side, and the side of a number of other folks here.

It would be hard to have the son you loved turn to homosexuality. It is still not our job to beat sense into them.

When judgment day comes, God will sort the wheat form the chaff. During our lifetime we try to treat people with love.

I view homosexuality very dimly, but I don’t see it as a crime. It is something that I cannot do anything about. I try to treat people with respect.

It would be interesting to hear the other side of the story now.

He waited too late. "Raise up your child in the way he should go, and he will not depart from it." "Spare the rod, spoil the child".

Can't ignore them until they are teens. Gotta set the path early.

My judgement? Daddy's fault.
