OK, sorry. I plead ignorance.

I just looked “Juneteeth” up on Wikipedia and found that it’s apparently gone national.

Terrible holiday. . . where I grew up it was just an excuse for certain folks to get drunk. Don’t get me wrong: emancipation is certainly cause for celebration — but it took TWO YEARS for slaves in Texas to find out they were free! I think I’d be aggravated.

Whatever — you learn something new every day.

It didn’t take them 2 years to find out they were free.....it took 2 more years for the Fed.gov to WIN THE CIVIL WAR and set them free! Declarations of “RIGHTS” mean NOTHING before they can exercise them in a practical sense.
