Press Releases Contact: Brendan Daly/Nadeam Elshami 202-226-7616 For Immediate Release 06/18/2008 Pelosi Statement on Bush Call for End to Ban on Offshore Oil Drilling

Washington, D.C. -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in reaction to the President’s comments at the White House urging Congress to end a federal ban on offshore oil drilling and open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for oil exploration:

“Oil companies are sitting on 68 million acres of public lands they have already leased, but President Bush and Senator McCain want to award them with even more.

“Americans are suffering under the Bush-Cheney-McCain policies that were written by Big Oil: $4 a gallon gasoline; $134 per barrel oil; increased reliance on foreign sources of energy and on hydrocarbons that contribute to climate change.

“Americans use one quarter of the world’s oil consumption every day and we possess less than 2 percent of the world’s supply. We cannot drill our way to energy independence.

“Our nation must move toward a new, cleaner, and more affordable energy future that focuses on renewable and increased energy efficiency. The New Direction Congress has already passed innovative energy legislation and will continue to develop other proposals to address high energy costs and shift our nation to a more energy efficient economy.

“We look forward to having a President in the White House whose energy policy can no longer be described as ‘drill and veto.’”

The same a**clowns who want to starve of us oil so we will develop alternative fuels, want to keep the welfare checks flowing to people who refuse to work. Cut off THEIR lifeblood and see if they can come up with an alternative, renewable income, and get the hell out of our way!

“Oil companies are sitting on 68 million acres of public lands they have already leased, but President Bush and Senator McCain want to award them with even more.

According to a report by Brit Hume of Fox News these leases are primarily only to determine if there is oil in those locations and most of the leases are near the end of their terms.

Yo Nancy,

In 2006 you and the Democrats ran on reducing our price at the pump. Since you took over, the price per gallon has all most doubled.

Maybe instead of screaming the same slogans you have been shouting since the 1970s about “conservation not consumption” you Democrats might get OUT of the way so we can develop some of our OWN energy resources?

91% of votes for increasing US production of Oil, Coal, Nuke and other energy came from Republicans. 87% against any increase in domestic energy production came from Democrats.

GET OUT OF OUR WAY YOU IDIOTS!

Did it ever occur to this idiot woman that most of these 68 million acres are not sitting over easily recoverable oil reserves? She knows nothing about the industry.

Blah Blah Blah... Just once I would like to tell her to her sour face to STFU!!! I don’t know who I am more pissed at, Pelosi and her big mouth or the Republicans who sit by and let the defining issue of this election(drilling) slip through their fingers. They ought to be all over the airwaves with this issue. Pathetic...

“Oil companies are sitting on 68 million acres of public lands they have already leased, but President Bush and Senator McCain want to award them with even more."

So let me get this straight, the problem is the oil companies are not doing enough drilling??? She wants MORE?

Or maybe we should take away the existing leases, why are we even allowing that much if domestic drilling is such a pointless mistake?

So I'm supposed to believe the oil companies have all the land available needed to make us energy independent? But wait, Pelosi says there isn't enough oil to do that, so the problem CAN'T be that they are sitting on what's already available. It would have to help to make more available, if there isn't enough overall.

Push hard Republicans. The dimocrats are on the wrong side here and too stupid to hedge their bets. They just dig in and throw rocks.

Americans are smart enough to know more drilling leads to lower prices and less dependence. Her stupid 2% vs. 25% arithmetic won't mean a thing. People know if you're hungry, you eat what you can - even if it's not enough food to last the rest of your life. Pelosi's an idiot and it shows whenever she opens her mouth.

“Our nation must move toward a new, cleaner, and more affordable energy future that focuses on renewable and increased energy efficiency.”

Nuclear? Nope, too dangerous.

Wind Power? Not in Member’s view lines.

Solar Panels? Nope. Really unsightly on the mansion at the vinyard.

Cut back on Members’ jet use (757’s ring a bell?) Nope. I’m important. I can’t fly commercial.

Algore’s energy-efficient home? It’s hard being rich. You can’t expect him to really go around turning off lights and not heating his pool in the winter?

Nancy and her dimwit cohorts keep talking about renewable energy, but never offer any specifics. I guess the New Direction Congress counts standing still as a direction.
