Three in less than 24 hours. I think they were 7.1 - 6.5 - 6.8. I was living just south of FResno when the Tehachapi hit in the dark of the night in July 52. I got to Eureka just in time for the 7+ in Dec 54 plus a few more over the years.

But to answer your question, the most violent one was a 5.8 just about under Eureka and very shallow. It dumped me out of bed about 6AM. It was a few years after the 92 swarm. My wife and daughter were out walking and they thought the world was ending because of all the transformers and wires arching.

the ‘92 swarm. “swarm” is a good way to describe it. whew! However!, I did learn how cool it was to be outside experiencing the quake— the trees looked like giant pompoms.

Yes, I remember that one. We had nothing happen at home from the big three, but that one actually knocked our slow cooker off the top of the refrigerator.

Actually, I have to admit that my wife was trying to wake me up when that one hit, and I didn't really wake up until it was pretty much over. Guess I'm a sound sleeper... :-P
