Germany was not prepared for war, above all diplomatically but also economically, drove straight into a predictable and predicted cul de sac, ran out of friends, added enemies, and predictably got stomped into oblivion. Everyone with half a brain could see it. A string of reckless gambles deluded proud fools in Germany to ignore it for a while, with the usual results of such pride - disaster.
