Tunes For The Troops
**Artist Showcase**
Disturbed is a rock band from Chicago, Illinois. The group was formed in 1996 when musicians Dan Donegan, Steve "Fuzz" Kmak, and Mike Wengren hired singer David Draiman in Chicago, Illinois. Originally classified as a nu metal band, Disturbed is now regarded by some music critics as hard rock or heavy metal, although others now regard them as alternative metal. However, the band's genre is still being debated. When asked about die-hard metal fans not finding Disturbed heavy enough, frontman David Draiman stated:
"We probably have too much melody going on or we're not quite as turbulent or caustic. While I really love that type of music, it's not what we try to do. If we have to place things in context, we're more hard rock than heavy metal these days."
This music is provided for the entertainment of our Troops, Veterans, Allies & their families!
Enjoy the variety of musical selections that the Canteen Deejays provide throughout the thread. Please ping LaurenMarlowe with your requests for the Troops.
All music is removed on Monday. Thanks to all the DeeJay's for their time & effort providing entertainment for the Troops!

Both of us still have it, but not quite as bad.
Mr B has had no voice for three days now.

Bobby Sanabria, who is a New York-born Puerto Rican percussionist/drummer and a big name in big-band, Latin Jazz, gave this definition of the Salsa, directly quoted: "Salsa is Cuban music with a friggin' New York attitude." I have yet to hear a better definition of the Salsa. :-) The Latin Jazz/Salsa fusion can be heard in the "OUR LATIN GROOVE" selections of this weekend's jukeboxes. Interestingly, the trombonist on these jazz-laced cuts is a female named "Nicole Zabala." She has a "MySpace" page and appears in a "You Tube" video. The "Azuquita Y Papo Lucca" cuts display a "big-band" sound. These cuts represent some of the "class" of Salsa. I, personally, prefer to dance to good ol', get down, street-Salsa sounds but like to only mellow out, relax and listen to "big-band" Salsa as Azuquita and Papo Lucca offer it. The Joaquín Pozo cuts show the latest rhythm to come out of Cuba. This rhythm is named "Timba." It has been around awhile but has not had the impact of rhythms such as the Mambo, Rumba, Cha-cha-cha and Salsa. However, the influence of New York Jazz is clearly evident. Enjoy, TROOPS! :-) |
