President Nicolas Sarkozy: France Will Cut Nuclear Weapons to Under 300

PARIS — President Nicolas Sarkozy said Friday that France will cut its nuclear arsenal to fewer than 300 warheads.
France will reduce by one-third its airborne force of nuclear weapons, according to Sarkozy, leaving the nation with fewer than 300 warheads. Many of those are aboard submarines.
Sarkozy said he is firmly committed to France’s nuclear deterrent. He called it the nation’s life insurance policy. But military spending needs to be re-examined, he added.
The French president was speaking Friday at the inauguration of a new nuclear submarine called “The Terrible.”
It was his first major speech on France’s nuclear program since he took power last May.

The answer was only partly to be found in his frequenting of a south London mosque. Before that, Mr. Reid had spent stretches in jail for petty crime. It was there, officials believe, that he was first steered toward radical Islam.
OPINION:
Convicted terrorists should receive the death penalty and it should be carried out right after sentencing.
Recidivism stopped.
No further recruiting.
This plan would give the non-death-sentenced prisoners a little something to ponder as to the direction they want to go — while in prison and after getting out.

This just in from Dearborn, Michigan
I got this email about an hour ago from an IP address that traces to Dearborn, Michigan:
ISLAM WILL RULE THE WORLD SOON INSHALAH.
That’s all it said.
I wonder what this gentleman is doing in Dearborn, Michigan in order to bring this about. Is he working in any way to subvert the U.S. Constitution? Is he engaged in illegal activity? Does any law enforcement or government official in Dearborn, Michigan know or care that there are people there who harbor such sentiments, or if they are aware of that (as they would almost certainly have to be) are they aware that this is not just a religious statement, but a political one?

Pakistan’s new rulers are going to have their plates more than full, dealing with constitutional, economic and internal security issues, apart from facing continuous American demands to get tough with the establishment’s erstwhile jehadi and Taliban allies.”

“Al-Qaeda in Yemen Reorganizes under Nasir al-Wahayshi”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The man most responsible for the growing strength of al-Qaeda in Yemen is a 32-year-old former secretary of Osama bin Laden named Nasir al-Wahayshi. He took over the leadership of the group when it had all but been eliminated, and has slowly, over the past two years, resurrected al-Qaeda in Yemen.
The publication of the second issue of Sada al-Malahim (The Echo of Battles) on March 13 illustrates the degree to which al-Qaeda has reconstituted and reorganized itself in Yemen. The most recent issue of the online journal was released exactly two months after the first issue was posted on various websites and devoted blogs. But already there have been significant changes to the journal. No longer is it published by al-Qaeda in Yemen, but rather by “the al-Qaeda Organization of Jihad in the South of the Arabian Peninsula.” There is also a certainty of tone and authority to the second issue that was lacking in the first. For example, the journal denied that a January interview between a local Yemeni paper and an individual claiming to be al-Qaeda in Yemen’s Information Officer was legitimate. “We say that we are the al-Qaeda organization of Jihad in the South of the Arabian Peninsula, and that the callers are ignorant of the situation and have no relationship with the organization.” All of this speaks to an increasingly centralized leadership within the group’s ranks in Yemen. “

The State Department this evening had not yet released the names of the persons responsible for the unauthorized searches but said two were employed by Stanley Inc. and the third was an employee of The Analysis Corp. (TAC).
Stanley Inc., a 3,500-person firm, is an Arlington-based information technology firm that this week won a $570 million contract to continue providing passport services to the State Department, which the company has done since 1992, according to Stanley Inc.’s Web site.
TAC is a McLean-based information firm that has helped the State Department automate the Terrorist Watchlist over the last several years, the company’s Web site said.
TAC’s Chief Executive Officer John O. Brennan is a former CIA agent who is an adviser to Mr. Obama’s presidential campaign.”

Fellow Marine’s Heart Saves Another in Transplant

ROCKFORD, Ill. — The heart transplant that saved Brian Troy was made possible by a fellow Marine.
Troy, 43, of Rockford, served as a Marine in the 1980s. He was dying of an inherited heart condition in 2006 when he received a new heart in a transplant. The donor was 23. Troy didn’t know much more than that.
Then Troy saw headlines about the murder of a 23-year-old Marine. He read about how Ricky Martinez survived two tours in Iraq, but he was shot to death in Chicago in a case of mistaken identity. The gunman thought a passenger in Martinez’ car was a rival gang member, prosecutors said.
That was enough for Troy to guess his donor’s identity. He then sent a thank-you letter to the family through an organ donor network. The first letter went unanswered, but a second, sent more than a year later, received a reply.
And just last month, Martinez’ family and Troy met. His mother, Adalilia Cruz, placed her hand on Troy’s chest to feel the heart beating.
“It shows you what kind of a person my son was,” she said. “Even after his life was gone, he kept helping.”
Troy agrees.
“Not only did I get a heart, but I got a very honorable heart,” he said.
Nearly 98,000 people are waiting for transplant of a vital organ, according to the United Network for Organ Sharing. Troy works to encourage organ donation, organizing events and passing out fliers.
