Mohammed Seminar?
The Islamic equivalent to the Jesus Seminar. The sound similar.
That right there opens the theology of Islam up . . .
Does this mean that the 12th Imam can stay put in that well?
i shouldn’t joke as this does sound like a positive step.
You cant stick a cylinder into a square hole.. This religion is strictly 9th century hokum, no getting around it.
There may be hope for the planet yet... because until Islam leaves the 7th century, it will keep over a Billion people in despotism.
...It's Turkey's statement that it needs to be considered now as a European nation.
...It's the promise of a european muslim state that is NOT part of 'greater albania', terrorism, or wahabiism.
...It's a potential rally point for moderate muslims - wherever they are.
...It's a chance to resolve issues with the Kurds (?/!)
Or, it's a pipe dream.
Or just cynical politics.
In any case, it's going to be dangerous to the power structure, and the masses, within Turkey.
If sincere, it will surely create enemies & require support from friends.
It could cause reorientation of islamist fervor - making us their likely best friend.
Fingers crossed.

But the Turkish state has come to see the Hadith as having an often negative influence on a society it is in a hurry to modernise...
Understatement of the year.
Cool, all the muslims will start issuing fatwas against the entire state of Turkey and they’ll leave us alone.
Allowing women to travel alone? What were they thinking?
This study must have been produced by that group named, “The Mohammad Seminar”.

I dont think this is going to be well received by many in the Islamic world, epecially the jihadists.
Lets say that it does work, and Turkey leads the Muslim world in modernizing Islam (or at least appears to). This is going to make them appear to be progressive and enlightened. American and European liberals, who have been uncomfortable with Islams repression, but have since been very silent, will hail this as a breakthrough.
I can see these same intellectuals publically exhorting the Fundamentalist Christians to take Islams lead and modernize their beliefs.
Meanwhile, as Christians are drawn even farther to the fringes of society, and persecution increases because we are not enlightened enough, a leader will come out of this new interpretation of Islam which will be beloved by the UN types and will be given carte blanche to basically do anything he wants.
All while this is happening, Christians will be warning the world that it is all a lie, but well be seen as hatemongers and dismissed or worse.

This is welcome and long overdue.
Perhaps some progress will be seen.
I wish them good luck.

We shall no longer chop hands off; we shall just chop fingers off one by one.
