Ever since Super Tuesday a super debate has been raging on FR concerning John McCain. I was never a McCain supporter, in fact I penned the post Super Tuesday post "Official FR Drinking Thread" so we could together drown our common disappointments into oblivion.
FReepers seem to be moving into three distinct groups. The first are those that have always supported McCain, a lot or partially. There are those that don't like McCain but are willing to support him because they believe they will get some of what they want or to defeat what the see as the more critical danger, Obama or Clinton. The there's the third group, those that viscerally dislike McCain and vow never to vote for him for any reason.
The actions and motivation for support from the first two groups seem obvious...they would rather see McCain in the White House than a dem. But for the life of me I cannot understand some of the actions of the third.
Allow me to explain.
I understand you dislike McCain and the reasons why. He is far too liberal on many issues, he has stabbed conservatives in the back several times and he is too cozy with the dems. These are all defensible reasons to not vote for him or to vote third party and you have every right to vote as you see fit and for whatever reasons you hold. What I don't understand is why some here are making such concerted efforts to dissuade others from voting for or supporting him.
As flawed as McCain is there is no way a logical case can be made that we would be better off under Obama or Hillary (O&H). Even on most issues where McCain is closer to the left than to us, O&H are much farther to the left than he is and would do much more damage than McCain. On the issues where he is not, the WOT, taxes, abortion, etc., the differences are stark and this does not even take into count extended issues like judicial appointments.
So why are you working so hard, so viscerlly, so nasty, to turn votes against McCain? If you truly feel as you do than go sit out November or cast your vote for your 3rd party candidate. That makes sense. What doesn't make sense is why you push for a McCain and GOP loss.
It may be as simple as "misery loves company". It may be that you validate your own position by getting others to believe as you do. It may be that there are some dem propaganda plants on FR. I don't know but I sure would like to and I know others do as well.
Doughty One, I stipulate the accuracy of your indictment at 273 in every detail. This full enunciation is vital and necessary.McCain will be handily defeated by the Twelfth Imam from Chicago or by Frau Mao, hence bloviating of dire consequences of treating truthfully with him are moot.
McCain was Soros' point man on the successful assault on our First Amendment right of freedom of political speech.
McCain remains Mexico's mouthpiece on open borders--esplain por favor Juan Hernandez.
McCain will attempt to smother American prosperity in service to the obscene post-Communist plot, "global warming".
McCain attempted to stop the nomination of justices who respect the constitution--he never got that "constitution thing".
McCain doesnt' get that "economic voodoo" thing either--opposing the tax cuts which are the prime engine of prosperity.
McCain never passes up a cheap shot on conservatives--but now thinks conservatives should get on their knees to him.
McCain was the main flack shaming America's reputation over Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo and waterboarding--
Waterboarding worked on Khalid Sheik Mohammed, but McCain thinks the mass murderer of three thousand Americans should get the constitutional rights my great to the fifth fought King George for.
McCain covered up evidence of surviving POW-MIAs in cahoots with that vile traitor John Kerry. I missed McCain calling Kerry to account for slandering our fighting men and giving aid and comfort to the enemy in time of war. I did get that McCain crapped on the swiftboaters.
I went door to door for Goldwater when Goldwater had all his faculties.
My posse Young Americans for Freedom had The Sharon Statement and right now the voice of reason in a sea crying for "change" ("change the meaning of conservative") is post 273.
We survived a Goldwater defeat and got Reagan. We survived Carter and got Reagan. We survived the Boland Amendment and got The Wall torn down.
We'll survive this election and get something finer and truer than the current handful of dust.
And finally a word about who dealt this mess.
It was 43 who pushed for open borders and never vetoed pork and lost both houses in 2006.
It was the RNC which let the Leftist media frame the debates, select the candidates, single out McCain, change the rules to allow the predictable crossover voting to select the weakest R candidate.
I fail to grasp the moral imperative mandating acceptance of a candidate selected by execrable policy and enemy forces.
Wild horses cannot compel loyalty to one so disloyal to the constitution and its defenders.
Oh, he's a defender of our fighting forces? Then he can't really support the International Criminal Court stepping in to give Jack Murtha a hand in crucifying those forces--
Yet, he does.
Silence his formalized quibbles, he is a globalist.
No globalists for us, thank you. We're conservative.
Well Bob, I’d imagine it’s because people come to FR to debate the issues and attempt to persuade others to their viewpoint.
Good to see you’re still an idiot.
Admit it. It's kind of a draw.....
Doncha think?
“ome people think that we might be better off sinking McCain and at the same time send a message that candidates of his ilk need not apply in the future.”
tell that to the blue star mom when osama pulls the troops out.
Bookmarked !.........:o)
BTTT !!!

Well said, Phil!!
Amen, Phil! Amen !!
Give him hell!
RINOs are obsessed with redefining conservatism and replacing it with a big tent.
:^D

Yeah...it’s certainly a draw.....and I don’t like the picture.

Say Good Night, Meek!
*good night meek*
: )
I'm gonna crash too....
ROTFL!!!
“What is this obsession with defining conservatism? To some people Ronald Reagan wasnt conservative enough.”
What’s funning is that Ronald Reagan was *not* a litmus-test conservative. He believed in basic things - God, country, and freedom - and worked to advance his principles through allies and compromise with those who shared only soem of his beliefs.
If you want to follow in the footsteps of Reagan, you need to think like him about working with others.
Guilani was the presumptive candidate for quite some time, he was considered a shoo in by many.
It was over, history whatever
A little while ago Romney was believed by many to be the GOP candidate.
It was over, history whatever, but may jump back in.
Don’t get caught up in the media hype and fall for what appears to be a fact when it is not written in stone.
The GOP has a convention to choose their candidate, watch what happens there.
I could say more, but I will honor your request and give you a break.
Thank folks. I appreciate it.
Between the two of you, I sit at my desk in complete awe.
Just about any order could win. It’s a dead heat. LOL
Stop it, yer killing me...
