Mugniyah is the alleged head of the security apparatus for the terrorist organization, Lebanese Hizballah. He is thought to be in Lebanon.
Indicted for: conspiracy to commit aircraft piracy, to commit hostage taking, to commit air piracy resulting in murder, to interfere with a flight crew, to place a destructive device aboard an aircraft, to have explosive devices about the person on an aircraft, and to assault passengers and crew; air piracy resulting in murder; air piracy; hostage taking; interference with flight crew; and placing explosives aboard aircraft; placing destructive device aboard aircraft; assault aboard aircraft with intent to hijack with a dangerous weapon and resulting in serious bodily injury; aiding and abetting.
Imad Fayez Mugniyah was indicted for his role in planning and participation in the June 14, 1985, hijacking of a commercial airliner which resulted in the assault on various passengers and crew members, and the murder of one U.S. citizen.

“’Most wanted’ Hizbullah operative killed in Damascus bombing”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Hizbullah television has reported that Imad Mughniyeh, a senior official in the organization who is listed on America’s most wanted list, is dead.
Mughniyeh was killed in a car bombing in Damascus late Tuesday night.
The cause of the explosion, which occurred about 10:45 p.m. in the upscale Kafar Soussa neighborhood, was not immediately known. Security forces quickly sealed off the area and removed the destroyed car, which had its driver’s seat and the rear seat blown away by the force of the blast.
Calls for comment from Syria’s Interior Ministry, which is responsible for security forces, went unanswered late Tuesday night.
There are no government buildings located in the mostly residential neighborhood. An Iranian school is about a few hundred meters from the blast, but the school was unscathed.”

This is a huge ‘get’ no matter who got the SOB. Presumably Israel..... wasn’t Imad Mugniya also believed to be behind the bombing of the Marine barracks in 1983? I think I’ve read that in the past, though don’t know who really knows — but he’s been considered one of the worst terrorist masterminds in the world for many many years. It is a great thing if he really is gone.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Born in the Lebanese city of Tyre in 1962, Mughniyeh did not attract attention until 1976, when he joined Force 17 as a sniper targeting Christians on the Green Line dividing West and East Beirut.
Mugniyah has since been implicated in numerous terrorist attacks against the US, France and Israel in which hundreds of people were killed. These include three in 1983: the bombings of the US Embassy in Beirut and barracks housing US Marines and French paratroopers who were part of the Multinational Force in Lebanon.
He has also been linked to the Karine A weapons ship that Arafat tried to use to smuggle arms into the Gaza Strip in 2001.
On October 10, 2001 Mughniyeh appeared on the FBI’s first “Top 22 Most Wanted Terrorists” list. A reward of $25 million was offered for information leading to his capture.”
