Hillary Clinton's most senior advisers are in a state of "panic" about her presidential prospects and are plotting to enlist Democrat leaders in Congress to thwart her rival Barack Obama's ambitions.

--

The Clinton camp hopes to stop the Obama bandwagon by winning Texas and Ohio primaries on March 4, after which Mrs Clinton is planning to call on party grandees including Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives and Harry Reid, the party's leader in the Senate, to persuade Mr Obama to stand down.

According to Seymour Hersh, Kennedy planned to pick Stuart Symington for his running mate but was blackmailed into selecting LBJ (who had the help of J. Edgar Hoover). Bobby was taken completely by surprise when he learned that LBJ had been chosen.

“””I want to see conservative voters pursued and convinced by McCain so we will not be ignored by him.”””

Exactly right

McCain knows he can not win without the conservatives and the evangelicals.

In order for him to win he has to make major real concessions to unite the party, no more reaching across the isle maverick poop. And it has to be real, not lip sevice.

Immigration, Judges, VP choice, healthcare, taxes, spending some kind of contract with conservative and we have to be convinced.

If he says he is conservative well now is the time prove it.

I will not vote for him in the general, but maybe(maybe) if he came to me personally on his knees and kissed my conservative butt and licked the dirt off my shoes he might have a 50% chance of getting my vote

A lot of the anti-war Democrats were mad at Hubert Humphrey but were slowly coming around—perhaps if the election had been a week or two later he would have beat Nixon.

My dream scenario - Hillary! uses superdelatgates to win the nomination though Obama is the “people’s choice”, Barack gets pissed off and runs as an independent.

More likely: Barack's supporters get pissed off and we have street riots that make the Rodney King riots and the Long Hot Summers of the 1960's look tame

How would a 4 way contest -— Hillary as independent, Obama as Dem, McInsane as GOP and Huckabee as another independent end up?

Just listening to him made my hair stand up.

Like I been sayin'. This guy is a committed marxist, born and bred. He is no friend of America and an enemy of liberty.

We would be better off with Clinton as the opponent, because I think McCain can beat her. But if she wins, then despite the pronounced puke factor she will be less damaging and more easily opposed than OBama would be.

I'm leaning towards thinking that it's better to have a thief in office than a charismatic Marxist. Hillary might be willing to limit the damage she does to the country in exchange for being allowed to steal as much as she and her cronies want

He’s awfully thin and energetic

Yes, he does have a scrawny body. He also has an elf face and big ears.

And if he were white we would not know who he is. Hes black and articulate and clean as Biden put it. A likable guy running on vacuous platitudes and a big smile as someone else has stated. The Magic Negro could very easily be our next president.

If he is smart he will cut her off and let her twist in the wind. People are passionate about his campaign Her supporters just dont want her to lose. Big difference

The problem with that is there's 9 months to go until the election and it's going to be Harry Reid setting the agenda in the Senate. Which is the only place McCain can actually prove that his outreach to Conservatives is "real, not lip sevice".

My guess is that 1.) Reid and the Dems will set the agenda to deny McCain opportunities to demonstrate Conservative bona fides and 2.) Reid and the Dems will set the agenda to deny McCain a lot of opportunities to vote ... period.

If we get behind the Repub nominee during the general process we CAN defeat both Hillary and Obama. Many on this thread sound defeatist, as if it’s all but over and our choice is between the two Dem candidiates. For those of you who remember what a Clinton presidency was like and do not wish for a repeat, may I suggest that you stand strong against the Dem party?

I have every intention of doing so. However, I'd rather follow Ben Franklin's philosophy and think the worst ... prefering to be pleasantly surprised by the results in November.

Having said that, the absolutist language being used by both prominant and rank & file Conservatives lead me to conclude that McCain will draw 10-15% fewer self-identifying "Conservatives" in November. If that stands, it'll cost him both Florida and Ohio.

Beyond that there's also the Clinton political dirt factor. We saw how the Clintons' played the race card on Obama. Yeah, it backfired and fractured their base ... because a lot of Dems were really ticked about it being used on another Dem. Using tactics like that on a Republican is going to fuse the Dem base back together again.

What happens if Hillary! gets the nomination and plays the "Crazy, psychologically-traumatized POW" card on McCain? Instead of lashing out at the Clintons' for playing dirty, Oprah is going to have Dr. Phil on her show to talk about McCain being a PTSD victim and a LOT of idiot centrist/independent voters/soccer moms are going to come away believing that John McQueeg is completely unfit for the office ...

Your comments are wise and thoughtful, recognizing the basic activity that has been occurring lately. I understand your perspective, but I try to always maintain a positive outlook, believing sometimes it can assist in facilitating a positive outcome.

I foresee the same outcome, no matter who the Dems or Pubbies nominate. They taste blood this year and will do what is necessary to put their candidate in the office. I've said this before, and it appears to be becoming my mantra as of late: I can only pray that God has better plans for our country than the path we are following. Thanks for the follow-up post!

Most of the MSM are sick of reporting on Hillary. She’s not terribly pleasant or fun to know. Everybody here knows why I don’t like her ~ and it has nothing to do with politics ~ just her general inability to be civil.
