MIAMI - Sen. John McCain won a breakthrough triumph in the Florida Republican primary Tuesday night, edging past former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and seizing precious campaign momentum for next week's string of contests across 21 states.
"It shows one thing: I'm the conservative leader who can unite the party," the Arizona senator said in a brief interview with The Associated Press. "It's a very significant boost, but I think we've got a tough week ahead and a lot of states to come."
The victory was worth 57 national convention delegates for McCain, a winner-take-all's haul and the largest single prize to date in the race.
Rudy Giuliani was in third place, his best showing of the campaign but possibly not good enough to warrant continuing.
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee trailed but told supporters he would forge on.
“We were attacked. The worst one in our nations history.”
Your point, if I take it correctly, is that the ongoing war against islamofascism needs to continue. I would agree. The devil is in the details.
In looking at Rep. Ron Paul’s website, it is clear that he does not support a continued presence in Iraq, and the reason has as much to do with the failure to formally declare war as anything. I would disgree with a hasty withdrawal from Iraq, but I think the war in Iraq will largely be over by 2009 anyway.
Where I see the problem, and one of the significant areas where I tend to disagree with Rep. Paul, is in dealing with constantly changing non-state actors such as alqaeda. Rep. Paul seems to view the issue less in terms of religious extremism and more in terms of occupation of foreign lands. I think he’s wrong on this. He offers some interesting proposals to counter terrorist threats such as the use of letters of marque and reprisal. But from what I can see, his underlying mindset with regard to terrorism is erroneous. If elected, I have little doubt that he would respond to an actual attack, but my concern is with his willingness to pre-emptively deal with threats.
Thank you for that message.
I am in Florida though in the northern part of the state where it is more conservative but like the south part it’s turning more liberal due to the snow birds coming here
“In the end — Hillary will force most republicans to vote for Mccain, SHE will rally our base, not him.”
That might be the thinking at the top, but I don’t think it’s going to play out that way.
Part of the reason why political candidates win office is because they can marshal ideological supporters to volunteer to work for them and convince others to do the same. “Our candidate is less horrible than the other one” is hardly the rallying cry that’s going to convince conservatives to take the time out of their day to walk precincts and work the phone banks.
“Third Party anyone??”
I think you’ll see one emerging after Feb 6. Rep. Paul is most likely going to run on the LP ticket, and who knows who else will emerge?
Historically speaking, this is looking an awful lot like 1856. Just substitute “John McCain” for “Winfield Scott” and “GOP” for “Whig.”
Thanks for posting the delegate count. So why does the Huckster continue to blab on Fox that he has the second number of delegates???
Who knows.
He may not be including the “super delegates”.
Here is the link where I got the information. Yea, I know CNN but they do a good job posting numbers and information.

Amen to that !!!
Thanks for the feedback. You make a good point.
Thank you for acknowledging that.
Oh, I think Obama would surrender the WOT for sure. I don’t think Hillary would.
FWIW, I am growing weary of the GOP and their attempts to become moderates. If McCain gets the nod, I will be done with the GOP. My only option is to choose a third party candidate that better reflects my views or stay away from the polls.
Does anyone know of a third party that best reflects the FR point of view ?
PS: Remember when we could tell the difference between the GOP and RAT presidential candidates ? Remember when the State of the Union wasn't a spending spree list ?
Correction: "SECOND-Party time". We effectively only have one party. The only discernable difference between the 'RAT Party and the RINO Party is the number of hard-left radicals that have infiltrated them.
"..And if the RNC insists on nominating McCain whether we like it or not -- (under the guise of "Polls show that he is the only one who can keep the Clintons out of the White House) -- then we essentially only have one political party.
That EFFECTIVELY will open the window for a "Second" political party. That's us! We can debate what we're going to call our party, but it will have to entail something on the order of the "Pro"-something or other - not the "Anti"-something or other. .."
Agreed. Although I think we may end up on the short end of ths stick for a while, in the transition period.
