Ted Kennedy endorsing Obama By Susan Milligan Globe staff WASHINGTON -- Senator Edward M. Kennedy will endorse Barack Obama for president tomorrow, breaking his year-long neutrality to send a powerful signal of where the legendary Massachusetts Democrat sees the party going -- and who he thinks is best to lead it. Kennedy confidantes told the Globe today that the Bay State's senior senator will appear with Obama and Kennedy's niece, Caroline Kennedy, at a morning rally at American University in Washington tomorrow to announce his support. That will be a potentially significant boost for Obama as he heads into a series of critical primaries on Super Tuesday, Feb. 5. Kennedy believes Obama can ``transcend race'' and bring unity to the country, a Kennedy associate told the Globe. Kennedy was also impressed by Obama's deep involvement last year in the bipartisan effort to craft legislation on immigration reform, a politically touchy subject the other presidential candidates avoided, the associate said.

I remember another leader who inspired the nation, especially our youth, to fulfill a promise of change. Those inspired young people marched, sat in at lunch counters, protested the war in Vietnam and served honorably in that war even when they opposed it.
That leader challenged them to ask what they could do for their country and, together, they changed the world.
So in the words of that leader, John Kennedy: "The world is changing. The old ways will not do... It is time for a new generation of leadership."

I respect the strength, the work and dedication of two other Democrats still in the race, Hillary Clinton and John Edwards. They are my friends; they have been my colleagues in the Senate. Whoever is our nominee will have my enthusiastic support.
But I believe there is one candidate whose extraordinary gifts of leadership and character match the extraordinary demands of this moment in history.
Barack will be a president who refuses to be trapped in the patterns of the past. He sees the world clearly without being cynical. It’s a great time to be watching politics.
Meanwhile, for any Conservative who ever said that they’d hold their nose and vote for Obama over whomever the Republican candidate was, perhaps Teddy’s endorsement should be considered a great BIG CLUE-BAT upside the head.
