Two assailants threatened the driver, who was en route to the FedEx facility in Newark, N.J., police told the television station.

Neither the driver nor the police had knowledge of the 18-wheel delivery truck's cargo.

VIETNAMESE airport officials have discovered a cargo of 700 live snakes on a Thai Airways flight from Indonesia.

"The snakes were alive when they were found in the cargo," a quarantine officer at Hanoi's Noi Bai International Airport said.

"Seven hundred snakes were later destroyed when no one claimed ownership."

The reptiles were found on December 19 in a container that arrived on flight TG 682 from Indonesia.

NEW YORK (AP) —

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The driver, who was found later in Brooklyn, wasn’t hurt, police and FedEx Corp. spokesman Steve Barber said. The truck — an 18-wheeler and one of the biggest FedEx vehicles — was later found abandoned in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn around 5:30 a.m. There was cargo inside, officials said.

Jim McCluskey, a spokesman for the Memphis, Tenn.-based FedEx, said no packages were missing and that those in the truck would soon be sent out.”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Halfway across the country, a freight train bound for Chicago derailed Friday, spilling several train cars loaded with UPS packages in Indiana.

Hundreds of UPS workers were sent to the site to load packages onto trailers and get them back on their way, company spokesman James Vickery said.”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The freight train, which was traveling from Secaucus, N.J., was hauling 39 UPS containers. The UPS tracking system will allow customers to track their packages online and be notified whether their parcel was thrown off the train, Vickery said.”

Medical couple may have contributed to 56 OD deaths

According to the indictment, 56 of the doctor's patients have died from accidental prescription drug overdoses in the past five years. However, the indictment alleges that only four of the deaths were directly caused by drugs prescribed by Schneider's clinic in Haysville, south of Wichita.

Sari heroin gang very arrogant

Snippets: Five drug smugglers have been jailed for stitching heroin into the linings of dresses and posting them from Pakistan to Oldham, Greater Manchester.

Equipped with aging sewing machines their humble workshop hid the real profits behind a mail-order fashion business with a difference.

Ijaz Ahmed, 29, a high-ranking member of the crime group, gives a running commentary as men toil on sewing machines to prepare garments for their special linings.

His associate Manir Khan, 37, can be seen gesturing to the camera and the footage eventually cuts to a package clearly bearing an Oldham postal address.

Officers discovered that Fazal Hussain, 40, known locally in Oldham as "The Godfather", had become involved in the smuggling operation.

He had begun taking a more "hands on" role in his drugs business following a series of police busts in 2005. Hussain and fellow gang member Mohammed Akseem, 39, were arrested at Knutsford Service Station on the M6, Cheshire, in March last year.

They had 2kg of heroin, with a street value of £200,000, in their possession. Mohammed Akseem, Manir Khan and Mohammed Iqbal. All members pleaded guilty to drug trafficking offences. This led officers to the house in Cambridge Street, Werneth, where Khan and fellow gang member Mohammed Iqbal, 40, were arrested.
