Not seems, it is.

The income tax is about socialism and wealth transfer. The sales tax is about capitalism and wealth ownership. Plus, I think any one of us would rather know how much government costs us up front. If the sticker price is there, we may finally stop voting for government we can't afford. The 16th Amendment would have to be repealed to eliminate the constitutional authorization to impose a direct income tax but Congress can eliminate the income tax if it so wants to do.

the fair tax, especially the prebate, is just a bad idea. Europe is leading the way with the flat tax.

I don't care as long as we get rid of the income tax. We should be the ones to decide how much to send to the state, not the politicians.

the Fair Tax lemmings are closet liberals I believe.

Flat tax, 10% across the board, EVERYONE PAYS (I do mean EVERYONE) and NO exemptions or deductions

30% tax on the purchase of a home while an invester (land lord) doesn’t pay that 30%. Could you afford an extra 30% tacked onto the price of your home?

This is a moronic plan with zero chance of ever being passed.

Why call it the “Fair Tax”? Why not something catchy like “Screw the Seniors Tax”?

I mean if you’re going to cut the taxes 50% for billionaires and tax granny twice on everything, that would be a more honest name for this POS plan!

Closet Libs? I don’t think so... There are a Fair number of us out here who believe the current system is grossly unfair, and unfairly manipulated by those with the wealth to buy the requisite advice and defend the result as needed. There are those of us who are sick and tired of the capricious nature of the fraternity that is our elected (and appointed) government(s). There are those of us who believe that the Fair Tax would be a breath of fresh air in this stale, cigar-smoke filled gambling house that is our current income tax system. There are those of us who see some ‘justice’ in bringing the ‘shadow’ economy (criminal) into the sphere of paying at least a semblance of their fair share.
And, there are those among us who believe a system such as this could help to re-make the US as a net exporter to the world, rather than the net importer we’ve become as a result of the uneven international playing field on which we are forced to compete.
Nope...not closet liberals. Merely solid conservatives with a firm belief that, if we must be taxed, then we should be taxed on consumption, not income.

I actually see an opportunity for a whole new industry here...if an investor purchases a new home for the purpose of investment. He can then sell it to those first-time home buyers and nobody pays taxes on the purchase then...once the investor owns it and then sells it, it’s no longer a new home...it is a used home...:)
