Why President Bush Sided With Mexican Killers

The U.S. Supreme Court's hearing of the case, Medellin v. Texas, has reminded the American people of President Bush's terrible tendency to put the foreign interests of Mexico above those of the United States. But the case, being heard on October 10, is significant for another reason. It demonstrates the dangers of passing global treaties and getting involved with international courts and tribunals. The Senate should remember this lesson as it ponders ratification of the U.N.'s Law of the Sea Treaty, which creates an International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea and various "dispute resolution panels" that will inevitably rule and act against the U.S. The Senate could vote on this treaty shortly and the odds are that it will pass unless the American people voice their objections immediately and vociferously.

It is very difficult to make a judgment about this. I can understand the outrage because I am a firm proponent of expanding use of the death penalty for alot of crimes including rape, child molestation and kidnapping.

But I also know that GWB approved almost all the executions of the killers that came up in Texas as Governor. He has already shown a commitment to the death penalty.

I also understand that as President he has to make decisions that can protect the safety and lives of Americans overseas. Americans that can be incarcerated and tortured in horrific rat holes around the world.

If by commuting the sentence of a rapist and killer, who would be spending the rest of his filthy life in jail without the possibility of parole, the life of an American held in a prison in China or Iran is otherwise spared, I would have to weigh that decision very carefully, knowing that my primary duty as POTUS is to protect the lives and interests of American citizens.

I think this would have to be a very difficult decision. I prefer to hear more before jumping to a hasty and uninformed conclusion.

On top of all this adoration of Mexican riffraff and criminals, Muslimization is proceeding. Prior to 9/11 I had not even heard of footbaths, much less demands to have them installed.

" because they want to make sure their are some protection put in place for American citizens abroad. "

I don't see how that works since GWB has pulled us out of the treaty- It's not in force anymore.

The brutality perpetrated on them is disturbing. I only read the article once, that was enough for me.

Believe me, I have no problem executing killers. I would execute molesters, rapists, people that sell drugs to kids, kidnappers. You got the idea.

But if innocent or even guilty Americans incarcerated overseas were mistreated or wrongfully executed for want of access to American consular services, we would be rightfully indignant. If an American, were held in prison in Saudi Arabia for distributing Bibles and was sentenced to death, we would need some way to negotiate for his release or the reduction of his sentence. We would all be slamming Bush if he did not do so.

I am not defending Bush's decision on this one, but I am suggesting that he had to consider his duty to protect American citizens held overseas. Since that is a possibility, I would prefer to defer judgment.

Distributing Bibles? Shove that analogy where it belongs.

There may in fact be multiple treaties with different countries on this subject, but it was stated on Fox news today that GWB rescinded this particular treaty regarding this Mexican, and that this Supreme Court action affects 50 other cases.

Is Cheney tied up and held in a locked room. Odd isn’t it?

Anyone who thinks that Bush is correct in sticking up for rapists who sodomized, beat and murdered a couple of young girls has their priorities mixed up.

How the hell do they think the parents of these kids feel?

I think the US is screwed. Screwed by Clintons and Bushes.

That anyone could support Bush in this tells us that the US has already sold its soul to Mexico.

I have never been more ashamed at my two time vote for an American traitor.

As a christian I fail to see how the hypothetical I suggested is inappropriate. I have friends serving on the mission field overseas and I am very concerned about their welfare and safety. I would hope that you would have cared about their safety as well. Instead, you have adopted a dismissive tone. I would hope that our President would have at his disposal a full set of diplomatic tools to secure their release or the commutation of their sentences if sentenced to death.

I have not had the opportunity to review the procedural background of this case. I know that a President has reasons for doing things that he cannot always articulate in public in order to protect the interests of Americans abroad. Rather than jump on the slam Bush bandwagon, I would prefer to get more information and hope that others would do so.

I think what others and I have been saying for some time now is that there is a pattern with this president of putting other countries and citizens from those countries above America. Bush is a new world order type - he isnt urgently trying to remove our borders and refuses to protect the American citizenry. Its not about this issue its the pattern of mistruths and demagoguery. Bush has proven himself time and time again to be one of the worst presidents of all time. His ratings are low not because of the dems hate for him but because he is despised by conservatives as well. We can pray for him, but remember he believes that Allah and Jesus are one and the same - not much hope for someone with his platform to spread such lies.

He’s not protecting Americans distributing Bibles. He’s protecting an illegal invader who brutally murdered two American girls. The protection he’s extending to this sick bastard does not in any way translate to justice for anyone, much less Americans. Read what he did to those girls, then tell me how that compares to handing out Bibles. That is by far the most offensive comparison I’ve seen in a very long time.

Bush may have made wrong decisions on a number of fronts but to suggest that he doesn't care about the families of the victims or that he has betrayed his country? Please. This kind of over-the-top rhetoric used to be the sole commodity of the idiots on DU.

You can disagree with the decision but Bush has approved the execution of more killers in his years in Texas than most Governors combined. He approved the execution of a woman who killed her victim with an axe. Evangelial leaders begged for the commutation of her sentence. GWB let the execution continue. So he has a recorded commitment to the death penalty.

It's obvious that other factors informed his decision, but it definitely was not a lack of concern for crime victims. Let your posts include a little bit of reason and avoid the dramatics.

How do you know that Bush did not do this in an effort to protect American citizens incarcerated overseas?

I wish Bush would have stayed the phony conservative he was till he was out of the White House. He is on a roll to do as many horrible things he can now.

When we get attacked again, I hope they play back over and over how Bush said Islam a religion of peace. What a bunch of bunk.

Maybe one day one of the families of a victim of the illegals will sue Bush for insisting on catering to the illegals.

Carla Faye Tucker. Yes ax killer American. Dead. Mexican sodomizers and rapists get the hope of the Supreme Court backed by Jorge.

Sorry. Bush has shown his true colors to too many of us.

We no longer like what we see.

Maybe he could show some good faith by freeing Ramos and Compeon.

Actually, I have my doubts he gives a rats ass about any US citizens anymore. He has shown his hand and he no longer needs the fools to vote for him..

“How do you know that Bush did not do this in an effort to protect American citizens incarcerated overseas?”

So that trumps justice at home???????? Is this what we have sunken to???? Filthy rapist murderers will now dictate to us their punishment because we are worried about the implication overseas? We had better start worrying about our house before we worry about others. Their are corrupt govt. all over the world, these criminals recieved fair trial here, comparing that to what other countries might do is stretching reality or worse comparing us to them.
