5 GOP candidates commit to Baltimore debate (No Fred, Rudy McRomney, but there are Hunter and Paul)
Baltimore Sun ^ | 09/22/2007 | David Nitkin

Just five Republican candidates - half the invited field - will take part in Thursday's presidential debate in Baltimore, event organizers said yesterday.

The four leading contenders, Rudolph W. Giuliani, John McCain, Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson, have each said they will not participate in the forum focusing on issues facing minority voters. Their absence has drawn the ire of Tavis Smiley, the talk-show host who is moderating and organizing the debate at Morgan State University; he said the candidates are making a mistake in not reaching out to black voters.

A list of confirmed participants released yesterday also omits Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado, a staunch opponent of current immigration policy. Confirmed are Sen. Sam Brownback of Kansas, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Alan L. Keyes of Maryland, Rep. Duncan Hunter of California and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, organizers said.

Also yesterday, former Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele, the chairman of GOPAC, a Republican political action committee, said in a statement that he was "hopeful" each missing candidate would "adjust his schedule" to participate.

****He did vote against putting troops on the border....5 times....

You may want to look at what else was in those bills.

If they were ‘naked’ bills (no amendments), then there’s an issue. If not, Paul’s NO vote probably had nothing to do with the main part of the bill.****

He might have an issue dealing with “posse comitas ??) and sending the troops to the border. The American military is not supposed to be used to enforce domestic laws.

****In national media (Bill O’Reilly), we’ve been called a “hate site”.****

There are a lot of Ron Paul haters here.

It's not just the Ron Paul threads. It's nearly all of them.

FR seems to hate just about everyone and every thing any more.

The Giuliani threads, well, it's natural to see bashing there and it's not just because of JimRob. Rudi does hold the same positions on the Second, on abortion, on sodomy rights, on immigration, as the Dims do and he did a lot more to harm the Right and heap abuse on us than any national Republican. Most of us think he is a Dim.

But then look at McCain, mostly hated for blabbing more than he should on talk shows and for McCain-Feingold-Thompson. Yes, Thompson. And yet Thompson doesn't qualify for even a fraction of the hatred that McCain does. You know, I wouldn't be wild about voting for McCain but he's no Giuliani either.

And look at the bile on the Romney threads. The Mormon-bashers seem to have tired out a bit but that stuff was just repulsive on political threads. But Mitt's threads are still nothing but ongoing harassment.

One assumes that at some point, the GOP will have a nominee. And that person may be hated by a majority here at FR. And a lot of it is just these hateful posts toward all the GOP candidates. So many of them are just a pack of trolls out to harass the supporters of anyone except their candidate. You'll notice too that some of the Paul-haters also smear elephant dung around on the threads of other candidates as well. They're just plain trollish.

O.K. so you think that I and the other libertarians on this forum (not a majority by any means but a sizable minority) are liars and liberals.

Therefore, we cannot expect to have any meaningful discussions with someone so ignorant.

BTW, Ron Paul did not say what you said that he said, but then we now that you are a LIEberal.

Not only did Rep. Duncan Hunter receive applause for the NALEO, he received A STANDING OVATION! :)

Rep. Duncan Hunter can be counted on to stand solid on the policies he has always offered. He is a man who says what he means and does what he says. A promise from Rep. Hunter is a done deal. He will be everybody’s president.

You think any of Paul’s supporters will even watch this debate, considering that it turns out most of them are neo-nazis?

I expect you to back up your statement. Prove that 60+ percent of his supporters are neo-nazis, or retract your slander.

>Why should any Rep. candidate subject themselves to questioning by a Dem. operative who makes no secret as to where he stands politically? I credit those who don’t attend for good judgment.<

What did we think of the Dem. candidates for not debating on FNC? You sound just like a Dem., kabar.

The contrast between the question and the answer given will reveal what needs to be known about the candidate.

GO DUNCAN HUNTER!

Unless you’re supporting Sean Hannity’s version of “conservatism”, the last time I checked this is a CONSERVATIVE site...not a LIEbertarian site. The hemp-lover’s LIEberalitarian site is down the block....

When Ron Paul has got the MoveOn, Code-pinko, “free-love” hippy crowd backing him and doesn’t dissassociate himself from them, guess what....he just might be a LIBERAL!

It’s been discovered that most of the Paul Qaeda internet spamming is being conducted from stormfrom.org, a neo-nazi site.

And who discovered this?

I swear one thread about something called the "Oregon poll" (a site with a frickin' GMail account for an e-mail address) having some stormfront nuts going to one website and suddenly that's the whole Ron Paul movement. Aside from that, do you have any proof whatsoever? And even if you did, who the hell cares? It's not as if Ron Paul has an active account himself over there or something.

Of course, you're not really interested in any of that. Anything that fits your imaginary belief of Paul-supporters must be true.

Maybe that’s like the “virtual fence” that others keep pushing....more empty words, a few new gadgets and un-manned aerial vehicles and still have a wide-open border.

>Just because a candidate decided not to attend the Values Voter debate, doesn’t mean he’s ‘turning on Christian voters and abandoning God’, anymore than not attending the Baltimore debate means he doesnt care about minority voter<

No matter how you deny it, SuziQ, it definitely does come across that way.

Spin it however you want, but the word is out.

You actually think your pathetic little thread means "the word is out"?

I’m talking about HERE.

And the thread can really neither be pathetic nor little if it gets you Paulbearers into such agitation.

Plenty of people on that thread posted to say “I had no idea!” No doubt many more reached the same conclusion but did not post. It also brought more eyes to SJackson’s excellent research.

As I said, spin it however you want, but the word is out.

I just spent 30 minutes listening to that radio interview of Ron Paul that you posted. He was GREAT! I encourage everyone to listen to it.

I have previously been non-committed (I was torn between Paul, Hunter, and Thompson), but I now declare my support for Ron Paul for president. I will be sending him a check.

Thank you for helping me to make up my mind. I am sure that you will do the same for others.

Plenty of people on that thread posted to say “I had no idea!”

How many is that? One? Two? Do you honestly think your thread cost Ron Paul any real amount of votes?

spin it however you want

You're the only one spinning. What the hell is the "Oregon poll" anyway? A blogger account with a GMail e-mail address and about 400 page views before you posted it? Also, is this your idea of anything meaningful? How'd you find that nothing site anyways? Is it yours?

When you find some real proof, like at the least maybe a link to CNN or Fox News saying most of the hits to their internet polls came from stormfronters voting for Ron Paul, let me know.
