Houston (Democrat) state rep uses pistol to stop burglary

Houston State Rep. Borris Miles used a pistol to wound one of two men he told police were trying to steal materials from a house the lawmaker is building, police said.

Miles was upstairs at the construction site at 3742 South MacGregor Way at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday when he heard a noise downstairs and went to investigate, police said. He spotted two men, Houston police spokeswoman Johanna Abad said this morning.

"He yelled at them and one threw a small pocket knife," HPD spokesman Victor Senties said. Miles pulled his weapon and "struck the suspect in the lower left leg."

The man suffered a non-life threatening wound, Abad said, adding that Miles is licensed to carry a concealed weapon. The wounded man was in Ben Taub Hospital this morning and police still were trying to identify his accomplice, Abad said.

Aggravated robbery charges are pending against the man in custody, Senties said. The suspect's name will not be released until he is formerly charged.

Miles issued the following statement: "Citizens have the constitutional right to protect their homes, when it is prudent to do so, I also urge them to contact law enforcement immediately. Had I had the option of calling the authorities prior to the shooting, I would have done so but with my life in clear and present danger and being immediately threatened by a knife-throwing burglar, I had no choice but to fire for my own protection. While this incident is regrettable, I will as any citizen should, protect their homes and the safety of their families."

The land on which Miles is building his new home is valued at $120,715, according to Harris County tax records. The 9,200-square-foot house is valued at $435,325.

Miles owns a Farmers Insurance Agency office in the Third Ward. A freshman representative, Miles defeated veteran state Rep. Al Edwards in the Democratic Primary last year.

That guy knows exactly what to say after being involved in a shooting.

Every citizen should commit his little speech to memory. If you are in a shooting recite that-then shut up.

Texas, like most Southern states, unless they changed something in the last decade, has a citizen legislature, which means that the legislature is only in session for a certain portion of the year, and it is expected that members of the legislature will have another occupation to tide them over.

For example, our legislature is always in session for three months. No one logically expects the members of it to do absolutely nothing income-earning during the nine months that the legislatuee is out of session

I have a similar statement which I have prepared in the event I am involved in a shooting. This one is much better though. I have printed it and saved it. I may print it and keep it in my wallet next to my lawyers phone number. Here in Houston the chances are you will be involved in some type of threating altercation within three years. I can’t wait till I leave in December.

Lots of Democrats pack heat. In Chicago, elected officals can pack without a permit.

Democrats just do not want anyone else to have the same freedom.

The Texas Legislature meets for a six month session every two years. State Senators, Reps and the Lt. Governor make $600 per month.
It’s a part time job and was designed that way by the Texas Constitution which was written to correct the excesses of “Reconstruction”.

A 10,000 square foot home can't be bought for $435,000 in most parts of the country. Its at least a few million dollars. That's a Texas sized bargain!

Another thread mentioned he’s an ex-law enforcement officer.

Let's see, ....... where to start?

Sending the suspect to Ben Taub is like sending him to Gitmo.

State Farm has a long history of not paying off on storm damage.

And is this lib going to change parties now?

Pretty laughable, when you think that the rats always line up and tell the same old lies about guns, taxes, welfare... but even THEY don’t believe that nonsense they spout.
