Explains the charges and the slant of the article.
It seems to me Kelly did all you could ask any human to do under the circumstances. I don’t see the period after the first beating as a period when Kelly should have left. I wonder who was really the crazy person here to be honest, when you get shot at by a guy you had been beating, and he lets you off the hook; You start beating him a second time, knowing he is armed, you probably shouldn’t be surprised when you get shot. It makes sense to me that a paranoid man would not leave the scene because he would want to resolve this, confirm this man was not a threat. The pain of his worrying about this man coming after him later would likely have been greater than the beatings, in his mind of course.
I have no idea who makes them, however, they do make a 4 shot 22 cal revolver that is very small( about 2 inches overall length).
Who knows if the cops would classify it as a derringer?
A guy I used to work with carried one in his pocket everywhere he went. He said you would be surprised how quick someone forgets all about wanting to fight if you shoot them in the foot with it.
Weird guy but he didn’t start fights, he would finish them in a hurry. ( He was a biker )
On a strange note, he was born in Minnesota but grew up in Wisconsin. He also was a Nam vet.
If you only have four rounds, don’t waste them on warning shots.
Article said: “One witness said Bodahl delivered so many punches that he tired out, then gave up and walked to the curb. Kelly could have left at that point, witnesses said, but he walked toward Bodahl. They talked for a time in a casual tone of voice, then Bodahl threw several punches. Kelly fell on his back and Bodahl punched him several more times as Kelly tried to block the blows with his feet and arms.”
Sounds to me like both of them deserved killin. That jerk Kelly just wouldn’t leave Bodahl alone. Hope he goes to prison for a very long time.
“The Massachusetts’ courts went so far as to rule that a person had to retreat from his or her own home rather than use deadly force.”

I am not sure if that is still the case in Mass.
There is no doubt that schizophrenia is a serious condition, but Kelly was aware of his condition and deliberately stopped taking his medication. There should be no sympathy for a person that is aware of a condition such as paranoid schizophrenia and does nothing to treat it.
As for the horrible blows to the head that he supposedly received, why were there no bruises or marks on his face in the pictures taken only two days later? Certainly a man who was beaten in the head so severely that he feared for his life should have some sort of marks to prove it.
I actually know Kelly. He’s a pretty nice guy. I’ve never seen him act up, over react. I think he did get shafted.
