I don’t care. If taking the chance of the GOP being wiped out is what it takes to not give our enemy the country of Iraq on a Silver Platter, than that is what we will do.

Saving the World, and protecting our country from destruction, is more important than winning the next election.

Anyway, if we do what the DEmocrats want to do in September, the GOP will be routed next year, because Bush, and the GOP WILL BE BLAMED for the hell that follows. That is a certainty.

The Democrats don’t care how many people die, they will end up in greater power.

The Republicans better care, because either way we are screwed. The only way Republicans win is if we finish the job in Iraq or get it through the thick skulls of America that our “sacrifice” in Iraq has been minimal compared to the tremendous benefits it has had, like minimizing the number of terrorists trying to do things like the six guys invading Fort Dix.

If the American People think Iraq is bad (which for us, it isn’t, we lose more lives on the highways, and spend more money on junk food), wait until they see an Al-Qaeda-supporting, Iran-loving Iraq crush all of our allies in its borders, and then set out for Saudi Arabia.

There won’t be a leader in the Middle east that will even TAKE A CALL from us after that. Until we put a half-million men in Jordon, assuming they don’t just surrender instead, in which case we’ll spend 2009 debating whether we should send troops to help save Israel, or just let them fight it out with their own nuclear weapons.

Hillary loves Kamikaze "Republicans" like you. You're helping her destroy the GOP. And when it's gone, and the Dems are in permanent power, all your hopes and dreams for security in the Middle East will mean nothing.

I agree that this is what will come next. But there are only two ways that this thing avoids a worst-endcase scenario:

1. Have a frickin' draft and get another 200,000 troops on the ground. (not happening)

2. Get help from Europe, other nations.

#2 is only going to happen if the entire Middle East falls into mortal peril. This may sound really twisted, but given that Congress will not provide the personnel necessary to win at this point, the situation has to get bad enough in the Middle East that it becomes a WORLD problem, and not just ours. Right now, the EU is getting a kick out of watching us get beat. If they were smart, they would see the same outcome that you and I agree is inevitable, and send forces NOW. But they're idiots. And they won't act until Israel is up for grabs, Saudi oil fields are ablaze, and Jordan falls to the caliphate.

At this point, the only way to win Iraq is to lose Iraq. Until the rest of the world understands what's at stake, we're the fall-guys. And unless Congress will do what it takes to win, there's no point in shedding any more blood.

I'm a patriot, CharlesWayneCT. I know why we're fighting this war. The fact is, looking at it with a cold eye, this thing is lost in its current iteration. IMHO, the only chance at a good outcome is if this war becomes bigger and forces Europe and our Congress to get off its ass and deliver the troops necessary to obliterate Al Qaeda, obliterate Syria, and obliterate whatever forces Iran wants to throw into the mix. Telling the president bluntly, "this is lost", may be the only way we can win.
