Vermont Secretary of State Deb Markowitz said the 2000 election, in which Democrat Al Gore lost despite winning the popular vote, is “problematic for democracy.”

Ok.. two things:

United States is NOT a democracy. It is a republic.

The founders of our Constitution was absolutely against mob rule (think French Revolution).

In fact, there is NOTHING in our Constitution giving anybody the right to vote in a federal election. I think the founders really wanted the House of Representatives to elect our President...

The framers of the Constitution might have been against mob rule, but the French Revolution couldn't have influenced them. The Constitution was written in 1787, the French Revolution occurred two years later in 1789.

Exactly. Until 1868 not every state's electoral vote was influenced by popular vote (South Carolina being the last IIRC). By looking at the way voting was intended for all levels, it was clear the Framers knew the general public would not have either the intelligence or the knowledge to properly vote for higher offices. Hence the Senate, etc.

If you need any evidence of that look at perhaps the last 5 presidential voting cycles. Tweedledee and Tweedledumber (take your pick on which is which) along with their 'faithful' cheering every step of the way for 'their' guy...

Absolutely correct! In fact, calling someone a “Democrat” was a high insult in 18th century America.
