Moroccan charged in Germany with aiding al-Qaida
May 16, 2007 BERLIN (AP)
A man of Moroccan origin has been charged with helping to fund al-Qaida and supply foreign fighters to the terror group’s affiliate in Iraq, prosecutors said Wednesday.
The suspect - identified only as Redouane E.H., 37, in court documents - is also accused of co-founding a terrorist group in Sudan, federal prosecutors said in a statement.
The man, who holds both German and Moroccan citizenship and lived in the northern city of Kiel, was arrested in Germany in July 2006. The charges were filed April 25, but there was no immediate word on when he might go on trial...
...Prosecutors said they also believe Redouane E.H. swore an oath of loyalty in August 2005 to Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Omar, ``who was authorized by Osama bin Laden to receive declarations of enlistment.’’ The alleged oath, in which the suspect said he was prepared to provide fighters and financing, was delivered by Internet to an intermediary, whom prosecutors did not identify.

“Mexico: Drug Gangs Using Terror Tactics”
May 17, 8:47 PM (ET)
By MARK STEVENSON
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “MEXICO CITY (AP) - Mexico’s top police official said Thursday that drug gangs are relying on a flow of arms from the United States and using terrorist strategies learned from al-Qaida to pressure the government to halt anti-drug efforts.”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Garcia Luna also described as a “terrorist strategy” the recent drug-gang videos showing grisly executions and warnings to officials or rival gangs, some of which have been leaked to the media and posted on the Internet.
Referring to one tape of an execution, he said, “this video has the format, and copies the scheme of a video used by al-Qaida,” the Islamic terror group that has posted videos showing beheadings.”
