Can anyone even possibly suggest that Rudy Giuliani is conservative? Since when are abortion rights, gay rights, gun control, sanctuary cities for illegals, etc, conservative positions? Why don’t the Rudy supporters simply admit the truth about the man? He does. He says I’m a gay union, woman’s right to choose, gun control, illegal alien kinda guy and those who can’t live with that shouldn’t vote for me. Why can’t they accept and admit to the truth and quit fighting about it. He’s a social liberal and proud of it and running on his liberal abortionist record.

The secret of any great political party, like any great human endeavor, is to find the common ground that builds an overwhelmingly effective organization.

It is good to be skeptical of a candidate. Skepticism is the hallmark of a civilized person; however, an eventual decision must be made on how best to achieve the goal you desire. Short circuiting this decision process by pejorative assumptions and exclusions results in a narrow base. Further, people often assume what is only partially true or completely untrue in making their exclusionary decisions.

Basic, empirical studies on how people vote, not on how they say they vote, reveals most people seem to ignore specifics in favor of an over all gestalt as to likability or dislike-ability. If Giuliani survives it will because of his personal appeal more than anything else.

“Can anyone even possibly suggest that Rudy Giuliani is conservative?”

Well Jim, Rudy’s momma seems to understand that better than some people here who continue to defend him...

“He only became a Republican after he began to get all these jobs from them. He’s definitely not a conservative Republican. He thinks he is, but he isn’t.”
— Rudy’s mother Helen

Momma knows best.

I’ve just come upon this thread due to a private message I received regarding the outcome of a FReeper’s comments about President Reagan. I’m aghast that someone would try to taint President Reagan’s record on being Pro-Life while boasting about Rudy’s record for his extremely liberal positions. No matter who winds up on either the DemoncRat or Republican Tickets, I will not every vote for Rudy for President. If Rudy were to win the nomination (a highly unlikely occurrence) I will change my party affiliation and vote independent in the General Election.
