Well, the British liberal democrats are saying this:
In a statement, leader of the Liberal Democrats, Sir Menzies Campbell, also called for their immediate release.
"Whatever the rights and wrongs of military action, British forces in Iraq are now there with the authority of a UN security council resolution... and the Iranian government should be left in no doubt of the serious implications of their action," he said.

" and the Iranian government should be left in no doubt of the serious implications of their action," he said. "
Sounds like the precursor to a "Strongly Worded Note"......
Yes, but what does it mean coming from a liberal Democrat? A real threat, backed up by the probability of imminent military action, or a UN-style, "I plan to have the Security Council draft a strong condemnation of this act of war, indluding threats of sanctions"?
Right now I tend toward the latter but really hope that isn't the case. Because if it isn't the case, there's plenty of room for the scenario I outlined to take place. Anything else would be be appeasement and a victory for the mad mullahs.
P.S.: if they did take Americans, the president would be in an excellent position against the left, the UN AND Tehran. As I explained about the terrorist mentality in 2001, this is counting coup. A game which they've lost before.
