I really like Ron Paul. My issue with him is that when presented a conflict between the constitution and libertarian dogma he will go with the libertarian side.
This bothers me less then someone who would go against the constitution for other purposes but I would really like to find a candidate that holds the constitution as the basis of their principles. I don't think libertarianism is often be at odds with constitutional principle but it's still something that concerns me. Despite that I could enthusiastically support Ron Paul.

Yes, but it's better to err libertarian than statist. Libertarian dogma doesn't endanger our liberty but it is too idealistic to win elections.
Barry Goldwater was the last Republican who held the Constitution as the basis of his principles. Ronald Reagan came close and did a pretty good job.
The Republican Party will need a Reagan or Goldwater to have a chance of winning the next election and that's just not going to happen. Ron Paul is the only candidate who supports liberty and that's why I enthusiastically support him. My guy may not win the election but I won't have to feel like I've betrayed the Constitution with my vote.
