Sorta. Mom insisted that we boys know how to cook, clean, and --- shudder --- sew. She said when we get on our own and until we get married we'll have to fend for ourselves. She made Gunny R.Lee look like a pansy. Dad taught woodworking, mechanics, and house repairs to us boys. And again Mom supervised and shook her finger at us if we weren't paying as good of attention as she thought we should.
