Does valid criticism count?

If they don't provide their alternate plan, they might as well be John Kerry.

Valid criticism absolutely counts. Such a critique must come from a foundation of credibility and knowledge. In other-words the person making the criticism must have something akin to credibility.

McCain never was a high level commander of military forces. I'm not sure if he ever did hold a command of any kind of combat unit. I'm unaware of his attendance and graduation from any schools of high command or military strategy. While his service as a combat pilot, and subsequent capture and imprisonment is worthy of respect, he doe not possess any special knowledge or education that would make him specially qualified to comment on the long term strategy and tactics in any armed conflict. I would imagine he should have some expertise in air combat operations, as that was what he did, not not from a command perspective, and certainly not from a ground combat command perspective.

We are at a stage where we have few military commanders that have any expertise in occupation-type of experience. The last batch of military commanders that had to deal with such a unique situation as we have in Iraq served during World War II. We don't need a Marshall Plan, nor do we need to soft spinelessness of Eisenhower. Instead we need the steely determination and sixth sense of General Patton. What needs to be done in Iraq is not going to be successful if meekly or softy attempted. We must be firm, relentless, and extremely aggressive in dealing with the problems there. Does anyone here think McCain possesses those qualities? I believe that Duncan Hunter does, Rudy might, Mitt unlikely but who knows, but McCain? In my opinion his opinion is worthless because it comes not from a core set of firm convictions and values, he's just running with what appears to be the convenient political current of the moment.
