Al Qaeda No. 2: Democrats Marching Into 'Abyss'
(AP) CAIRO, Egypt Al Qaeda's No. 2, Ayman al-Zawahri, called for Muslim unity and said American elections that gave Democrats control of Congress would not change U.S. policy in Iraq, in a new audiotape released Tuesday by a U.S. group that tracks extremist messages.
The Washington-based SITE Institute released a transcript of the audio, which it said it had intercepted from Islamic militant Web sites where his messages are usually posted.
The Associated Press could not immediately find the audiotape independently, but found messages on a number of them that said an al-Zawahri tape was expected to be aired shortly.
SITE said the multimedia arm of al Qaeda, as-Sahab, claimed to have produced the 41-minute audiotape.
On the tape, al-Zawahri said recent congressional elections in the United States that elected a majority of Democrats would change nothing.
"The people chose you due to your opposition to Bush's policy in Iraq, but it appears that you are marching with him to the same abyss," al-Zawahri told the Democrats according to the transcript.
It was the forth message by Osama bin Laden's deputy since the beginning of the year. The last was on Jan. 22, when he mocked President Bush's plan to send an additional 21,000 troops to Iraq.
Al-Zawahri called what he described as Bush' failure in Iraq and the growing Taliban resistance in Afghanistan the "most important events" of the past year. He also said that "the people cooperating with the United States in Afghanistan and in Iraq would be abandoned by the Americans once they fail, the same way they did in Vietnam."

Be patient! Sheeze! Class action treason takes time!
Terrorist Zawahiri is about to learn some lessons about the US Constitution, mainly that there is only one Commander in Chief who decides how to run wars and that is the President of the United States. The democrats are not marching with President Bush, they are doing all what they can through defeatism and giving aid and comfort to the enemy to undermine this war, demoralize our troops, and embolden the enemy, however they are too weak and too impotent to stop the President from achieving complete victory against the terrorists. They cannot even pass a non binding resolution in the Senate to oppose the President plan for victory. Yep Zawahiri is deeply disappointed with the weakness of the democrats, he put a lot of hope in them.
al-Queda is now a DNC 527 org.
Cap it is an Audiotape ....not video....hmmmm.
It would be awful
if the terrorists started
targeting 'Rats! [coughs]
Probably from his limo.
This way terrorists
can play the message on their
cool iPod shuffles . . .
"He also said that "the people cooperating with the United States in Afghanistan and in Iraq would be abandoned by the Americans once they fail, the same way they did in Vietnam."
Yep. He's definately got the Dems number down.
I thought you had seen that it was just an audio tape. Of course, they released it as a "video" but only a video of his picture. It is just one way of providing English subtitles. Maybe it is technical problems on their side, or continuing security concerns, or a combination of both.
In any event, this does not enhance their image . . .
So either he can't go back to the place that used to produce his videos.......I'd love nothing more than for us to nail Z, OBL and have Patreus kick a$$ before the next election cycle. I may be naive, but wouldn't it be loverly?
Exactly.
This guy sounds like he could win a Congressional Seat if he runs in Minnesota.
Any democrat nominee will get their vote in 2008.
I'd say that's being hopeful, not naive. No war has ever been won through pessimism or naivete.
I've recently been reading some of the C.S. Forester Hornblower novels which are said to be reasonable representations of the realities of the Napoleonic wars. What jump out at me now are the comments about how the British press of that day sometimes disparaged the determination of some to stop Napoleon. Forester was writing some of his novels in the shadow of WWII, so I wonder whether he was using his writing to put across a point of view on his own day's conditions.
It was daring, determination, and sacrifice that carried the day in that time, and no less should be expected today.
"The Associated Press could not immediately find the audiotape independently, but found messages on a number of them that said an al-Zawahri tape was expected to be aired shortly."
Considering the daily AP rewrites, I think I'll wait until I hear from another source.
