The GOP ran the last election only on the platform "Do you want Pelosi as the speaker?", and now they seem to be saying "If you don't vote for Rudy/McCain you must want Hillary".
Running a campaign by slamming your base and trying to force them to vote for someone who does not represent their views is a great way to insure you loose an election. And when that election is lost, they will just move farther left.

Absolutely. Sadly we watched the democrats vote for Kerry because he wasn't Bush and they lost so the GOP turned around and did the same thing and they lost. Seems like there would be some kind of learning curve at play somewhere.

It tells you a couple of things, though.
One, it tells you the person retailing the argument is dishonest. Two, it tells you that he holds you in contempt.

I agree that the base should not be slammed for refusing to vote for someone that does not represent their values is not the way to go, but we will NEVER move closer to the LEFT.
