And I have to ask again: With gambling, etc. growing throuought the country, if Las Vegas were wiped out today, would it ever be rebuilt as a gambling capitol again?
I just rented a terrible movie called "Idiocrity". The city and people of the future sort of reminds me of New Orleans, now that I think of it.
Good, those people have suffered enough.
"The damage in the hotels? It wasn't from flood damage. It was from the animals who rampaged and looted."
The Fairmont New Orleans sustained significant damage as a result of Hurricane Katrina and the subsequent flooding........
Well, what have we here? Do I see the word "flooding" in that news blurb? How can that be? Unless of course the animals you refer to were fish. Nothing more scary than a couple of rampaging, looting catfish and red snapper.
Las Vegas no doubt WOULD be rebuilt. It would be sensible to rebuild a city that made money. It isn't a city that might have to be evacuated every year, several times a year. It makes no practical sense to have anything but the Vieux Carre, the Port, and the small portion of N.O. that Katrina did not destroy, remain here. The inescapable truth is that New Orleans is a city that has to be prepared to empty out, on short notice, for 6 months of every year! We spend more time preparing to RUN from home than any other city in the country!
No other city of nearly a million people has to be evacuated for a snowstorm, or tornado season, or any other weather phenomenon.
N.O. should be a seasonal tourist destination- like Vail, Colorado. Simply shut the place down for the 6 months of hurricane season. Might as well- because now tourists know what it means to come down here during those months. The images of a city under water will be in their minds forever- as well they should be.
I know four people who have gone to New Orleans in the past year. Not one of them would go back. Same here.
